On Oprah
I dont watch the Oprah show often, but todays subject matter was one that drew me in. Shes been in the New Orleans area with her Angel Network. Then onto Houston. Say what you will about Oprah. She can get the job done.
She took cameras inside the Superdome. The Mayor was right. You cannot be prepared for what you see, and the stories youll hear.
What took so long for me to realize the total devastation? When we find a victim with no hope of survival, we bring them to the morgue to die in peace. Thats a quote I will never forget.
Money and love . . . neither is ever enough.
I called the Red Cross. I asked them if Katrina survivors were being transported this far north. She said that so far, there were no requests coming through. Not to say that things couldnt change. I offered my home to a mother and child, or possibly two women. She took my phone number. Then, she gave me the story about things possibly not working out if this were to be an extended stay, yada, yada, yada. This is something Ive been thinking about since hearing about so many people being displaced. Yes, I did think this out. I thought it out through my heart. How else do all important decisions get made?
You are a wonderful person for making that offer! You can also go to hurricanehousing.org, i think it is, and add your name to the list. I’m sure that someone could use your help! I missed oprah, but really it would be so hard for me to watch much more of this. It’s so heartbreaking.

I’ve been thinking the same thing, but haven’t had the courage yet to make that call.

I’m watching Ophra now. “…we bring them to the morgue to die in peace.” Why aren’t more people completely outraged? I don’t get it. I’m baffled by those who continue to defend the various levels of government. They are all complicit, but the Bush Administration is the worst.

A half million people is just more than can be given proper refuge in such a short time. The finger should point to what caused the two canal walls to fail and flood the city. Rain water didn’t do it.
