 Alas, the end is nigh.

The end of my summer of freedom, that is.

But that’s ok. I’m ready. My official start date is Monday, but I’ve already bagged a new client, and have three very lucrative leads for meetings with people that are actively seeking new resources at the conference I’m going to in Denver.  I’ve got a new email address, access to archives, a buttload (derived from boatload, avé Maria) of old powerpoint presentations to revise, and hours and hours of database organizational work ahead of me. Feels good to think about stuff outside these walls and fences.

On the homefront, after 3 months of very slow-going, a.d.d and depression filled wiring, the electric has passed inspection on it’s first try. Boy is in the kitchen, as I type this, measuring and preparing to hang drywall, which I hope happens today or tomorrow. Then come floors, then come cabinets, then comes my new office.

I’ve declared my old office no man’s land and ‘the death room’. (temporarily, of course). We haven’t found the screen that fits that window, rendering it inoperable. The cats have choses that area to bed down in, and I can’t air it out. It doesn’t smell like pee.. just cat. Also, I have since found out that it’s the room that Old Man Rudy died in, and probably his wife, too. That really doesn’t bother me too much, but there are funky stains on the wood floors, and it’s just too damn hot. It’s exterior wall is only 5 feet or so off of the exterior wall of Harold’s house, so even if there was a window to open, it wouldn’t yield much air flow.

I don’t think this will be an issue by the time we are ready for guests, because the weather should have cooled by then. And we’ll put a rug down on the gnarly floor, and MIllie’s furniture will dress it right up.

My new office is at the back of the house. Instead of a brick wall, it’s window overlooks Harold’s 50 year old apple tree. It has this weird 1970s gold and blue faux cross stich eagle wallpaper, that i’ll leave up until we are ready for plaster in that room. The floor is in significantly better condition, and the door to the office opens up into the kitchen. I’d like to eventually take the traditional door out and put in a door with glass panels so I benefit from the natural light that all of the windows in our kitchen bring in. It will be great… for now, I’ve set up camp on the tall pub table that sits in the unfinished parlor area. Can’t move into the office until those cabinets are moved out.

I am having such a hard time imaging my life with a modern kitchen and a new office all of the things that make life easier.

On a gardening note, things to eat are taking off. My spinach crop has come and gone and i’m in the middle of savoring my lettuce. Cukes and peppers are almost here, as well as green beans. Tomatos, we’ll have to see. My flowers are gorgeous, but allergies have kept me from doing the overkill bouquets that I had been for a while.

I just realized i’ve been blabbering about things of no consequence to anyone but me. so be it. i’m alive, i’m kicking, and things are progressing. and it’s hot. that is all.
