So I don’t die an OD death.
Current irritation: Library construction.
Well, I decided to turn in my Deaf Culture paper tomorrow instead of today so I have some time to write a real entry before I complete my English response.
Erica’s life = work and school. Work is all right. I’m not in charge of doing the schedule and, let me tell you, it is a thankless job. Creating the thing itself is not difficult but dealing with people wanting to change every shift and then wanting to change their availabilities every other week is irritating. I’m probably going to put my foot down about both issues soon. Will talk to Jacob, then become immune to pleas for silly things.
School is also all right. Online courses have their advantages and disadvantages. I rather miss class, though. Maybe next semester, I’ll do three night classes, instead of anything online. Or maybe two night classes and one online class. We shall see. I’m taking:
CSD 139: Deaf Culture
LING 130: Language and Gender
ENGL 152: Victorian Literature
The Victorian Lit class is neat. The only book I’d read from the period before now was Wuthering Heights — blah. But last week, we read excerpts from Carlyle, Clough, and E. Barrett Browning; I like Carlyle’s emphasis on justice. This week, we finished Gaskell’s Mary Barton and I really enjoyed it. A teensy soap operaesque at times but, overall, interesting. I am struck by how similar Victorian issues are to issues emphasized in our society today.
In other news, I have a two bedroom apartment to myself; Bryan is fine, the family is fine; I’m now 23 and feel no different. I think that’s it. Bye.
Yay you!
