HELP NEEDED! guitar/bass experts *please read!!!!*

I want to buy my husband a bass for his birthday (in 2 weeks). I’m not looking to spend very much money (under $300) but he really wants this clear bass he saw on ebay. The companies are Galveston and KTone (which i’ve never heard of)–but they look like really cheap ugly guitars. Does anyone know how reputable these are, and what other companies have good products besides the REALLY  expensive ones (Warwick, etc)?????

This will be his second bass and I want it to be better than his current one which is a B.C. Rich

My advice is to check out pawnshops/craigslist. for 300 dollars, most basses you would buy new, IMO, would not be worth it, or very good. I went with my brother to a pawn shop and helped him pick up a badass dean5string with EMG pick ups for $170. And I know the clear ones seem cool, but trust me, they sound like crap, the acrylic is a terrible conducter for sound, just my thoughts.

Zachs’ totally right about the acrylic thing. They look cool but lack sustain, though Galveston makes pretty solid basses. Pro reviews are pretty good for them. I guess that means is he a serious bass player or not? If he plays for fun the see through isn’t so bad. If this is going to be his spring board instrument he hopefully plays in a band with then I wouldn’t recommend it.

PS- I had a BC for awhile, almost any guitars are better than them, they look awesome (that’s why I got mine) but play horribly. Ibanez and fender make a lot of basses at multiple price ranges(Fenders quality is usually better) and pawn shops do usually have a ton of them. Plugging one in and playing it to make sure the wires work is important if you go that route though.

Then you can say “I bought you a delicious bass” a la Napoleon Dynamite.
