Reading in the bus

Have you built up a habit of reading in the bus? For me, I get used to read the newspapers in the minibus every morning. However, the newspapers in my building are always late and so I end up having nothing to read. Therefore, I have to bring my own book.

I am not the kind of the person who likes reading. I seldom read and I hate reading when I was a student, never read books except textbooks. But it is the free newspapers to make me read everyday.  As time goes by, I get used to read. Without newspapers, I feel uneasy of having nothing to read. Therefore, I will bring along my Putonghua book for revision. Usually I will read aloud the vocabulary to help me remember the sounds. Haha maybe it will be a disturbance for the person who sits next to me, and I will try to read quietly for myself.

Today when I read aloud the vocabulary as usual, the woman sitting next to me suddenly turned to me and said “It should be xuejian. I hear you read quite well except this.” Wow, I was a bit shocked. I replied politely “Xuejian? Oh I see, thank you, I just tried to sound the words by myself.” After saying this, I continued to read but this time I was a bit tense because I knew there was this lady listening to me. Oh I was scared!

Have you ever got the experience like this? This is the first time for me. I am a bit scared by her kind interference but I think it is a good thing because I don’t know when I will make a wrong sound. If someone can listen to me and correct me, that will be very good. But of course, it is impossible unless I’ve got a private Putongua tutor haha.

In fact, it is not the first time I started a conversation with someone sitting next to me in the bus. I remember few years ago when I was a student teacher, I used to read in the bus. One day when I was reading English in the bus, a guy sitting next to me suddenly talked to me and asked me to be his daughter’s private tutor and that gave me a part time job. Can you believe? Reading gives me a job. However I never meet any “bus love” in the bus, like in the drama. My friend met once before (and they were together), just wondering how nice it will be if it happens to me haha.
