College has begun to warp my mind beyond recognition, but I'm still growing up. I have a hard time imagining where I'll be in a few years, which is both discomforting and exciting. So, to sum things up- heres a few likes and dislikes:

I like alternative rock, autumn, good books, writing, hanging out with my friends, travelling, video games, outgoing girls (though other kinds are good too), physics, detective shows (like Cold Case Files), sleeping in on a rainy day, concerts, Hot Topic, cold iced tea, Halloween, the theatre, martial arts movies, and lightning bugs.

I dislike olives, the cold, hangovers, unfriendly people, country music, spring-time allergies, too much pink, intolerance, physics exams, and waking up early.

It could go on, but then what would that leave to the imagination?

A Friday the 13th

April 16, 2018
Friday was a mess of a day. It started with coffee at the house, then office hours at school. There was actually someone at my office hours (it's usually been quiet this past month) who I helped on mechanics and conservation of momentum. She had an example at 12:30 and man, considering how little...

  • Dreams After Kalalau
    April 6, 2018
The trip to Kalalau was an amazing adventure - one I've done 5 times now and never had the chance to document thoroughly here on opendiary. I've written all about it in my paper journals, but it's nice to be able to type entries out too.  Dreams of the woods This year, the dreams afterward…

  • Open Diary is Back – What does it mean?
    March 21, 2018
I started using OpenDiary a long time ago - when I was in high school - and I have many, many memories here. Some are embarrassing. Some are heart-warming. My account is probably one of the older ones here on this website, going back all the way to 2001, not too long after 9/11. That's…

  • One Week of Freedom
    January 8, 2014
I came back to Honolulu knowing I would have a few days off before returning to classes, grading, and studying. I like school, don't get me wrong, but it can be a lot of work sometimes too. And when it's not a lot of work, I get stressed out too. I want to contribute to…

  • A.Q. – After Qual
    December 18, 2013
The waiting after the exam was one of the most terrible parts. We knew the results would be out on Wednesday, but no one knew what to expect. Would they only pass star 6 again? Would they be kind and allow 10 through? How did we all do relative to each other. I contemplated spending…

  • During Qual
    December 16, 2013
The qual hit first on Friday, then packed a second, six-hour punch on Monday. Overall it didn’t go terribly, but also not as well as I expected. The first part of the exam was Mechanics, followed by a break and then E&M. I sat across from Jake, but I made an offhand comment before the…

  • Night Before (The Qual)
    November 21, 2013
It's been a long few months. I've been studying every weekend - spending Saturdays on the fourth floor of the library among the eastern religions section, studying thermo and looking out the windows at the mountains. Sundays were practice qual day. We did four of them, Elan, Jake and I. Early on,...

  • Incident of the Week 3: Adventure Time
    October 23, 2013
At the beginning of the Fall semester I brought back an Adventure Time mug with me from Baltimore. It tags around with me, mostly to Mechanics of Stat Mech class and the occasional free lunch. One or twice, it even made to my class while I taught. Well, one of my students took notice and…

  • Incident of the Week 2: Move with Aloha Parade
    October 15, 2013
On Thursday, Jake and I were biking back from free lunch at the Baptist church when we can to the main promenade of campus. It's a long, palm tree-lined walkway that would be beautiful if it wasn't perpetually marred by construction. As we arrived, I saw a campus security officer guarding the pat...

  • The Quiet Breakup
    October 9, 2013
Last night, I went over Anna's for our weekly study date. On the way, I stopped at the Makiki General Store and bought some chocolate and a bottle of wine. It was cool out - autumn like - but not chilly. I was feeling a little light-headed from coffee and the residual traces of the…
