Stock show time!
Here it is, the National Western Stock Show. One of Denver’s biggest events. It coincides this year with the AFL championship game between the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots, so the town is buzzing. We’ll talk about the game later, but now I want to tell you about another part of the "Stock Show."
The Colorado Cowboy Gathering, aka Cowboy Poets Gathering. We went to a session of this interesting, folksy, event yesterday with our Fabulous Friends. It was fun to sit in the theater and laugh and applaud as these (for the most part) authentic working cowboys (and girls) regaled us with original verses, some set to music. All the material depicted life on the ranch. My favorite was a woman from South Dakota whose poem was entitled "My best Christmas gift in years".
The honored guest at the gathering was Baxter Black, a really famous cowboy poet. (You may remember when he did commercials for Motel 6…"We’ll leave the light on for you…") Sadly, he wasn’t part of this particular session. I’m sure the tickets to his show cost much more than what we paid.
The presentation was in the morning and afterward we had their "authentic Chuck Wagon lunch" and got home around 2:30, still laughing at the down home humor from the show.
Have a good weekend, OD friends, and may (my) team win!
The cowboy thing sounds fun 🙂
