Reading and other stuff

     Since I decided to not participate in the AARP Tax Aide program this year, I have had lots of free time while Papa studies and goes to classes and writes tests.  He will be working three or four days a week starting Feb. 1.

     I have been spending the free time playing bridge (2 or 3 times most weeks) and reading.  I got a new Kindle Fire for Christmas.  I can’t see that it’s that much better than my old Kindle, although it can do lots of things that I have no desire to learn.

     This week I read three books and started a 4th one.  All were so very different, I can’t tell you.  The one that sticks out in my mind when I think about it is "The Book Thief".  I hear the movie is out and that it follows the book "pretty well" but I’m not much of a movie person, and I never, ever like a movie as well as  the book. So, no, I won’t be going to the movie.  I also read "The Rosie Project" and "Rivers".  Enjoyed them all.

     Papa and I went to Walmart one day and bought a new lamp for me to read by.  The one I was using is very, very old and keeps coming unscrewed from the base.  It began blinking on and off one night and I said "That’s it." and unplugged it.  It went to the dumpster and I have a nice floor lamp by my chair now and can see what I’m trying to read much easier.

        Our grandson, Rusty, is on the varsity wrestling team at his high school.  He hurt his elbow early on and missed the first few weeks of the season, but he is healed up now and back in action.  We go and watch the home matches and were thrilled for him this week when he pinned his opponent and the team won.  They haven’t been doing so good, so it was exciting.

     I met with my writing group Tuesday.  My turn to bring the muffins.  We meet at the leaders’ house on the first and third Tuesdays.  There are six of us, all in our 70’s or 80’s.  We write our memories and it is very interesting to hear of the lives of these folks whose pathways to this time and place varied so much.

     The weather has been nice here, for the most part.  Had a little snow one night, and one cold day this week.  Looks like we’ve got some stuff coming our way for the first part of next week, but nothing like my friends out east have been putting up with.

     The city is in a frenzy, waiting for the Super Bowl a week from tomorrow.  If the Broncos don’t win, there will sure be a lot of disappointed people around here.

Oh, my. I’ve been reduced to a crawl with my reading…but I keep on reading. You sound great, and we will be watching the game with you.

We have had roller coaster weather. Good luck to the Broncos.

Your writing group sounds like it would be such a blessing to be a part of…and just imagining all those stories from so many walks in life. Sweet stuff! Hoping your Broncos pull it off, and keep those smiles on everyone’s faces out there…. Thanks for always being such a breath of fresh air my friend…love getting notes from you! *HUG*

OD is closing down, you know that, right? It is on the front page. I hope you will consider moving over to Prosebox and reconnect. My name there is Margitte. I loved reading your diary. It meant a lot in my life. Hopefully we can reconnect on Prosebox.

I hope you check out OD before it shuts down 🙁 I’ve loved keeping up with you over the years and will always treasure the baby blanket you made for my first grandchild. I can’t believe this is happening{{tears falling}}
