Life goes on
"It’s summertime and the livin’ is easy…." So goes the old show tune. Not much new here. I’m getting in some of my favorite "deck time" and reading an average of one book every two days.
We are horrified concerning the fires around the state. Last I heard there were nine going strong. Many, many folks have lost their homes. And more hot, dry wind forecast for the coming week. The smoke hasn’t really been bad in the city, but the air has a heaviness to it that reminds you something is wrong. When I was a little girl I used to lay awake nights fearing that our house would catch on fire… Funny, the things you remember out of the blue.
Our senior club went into the city last week to visit the Colorado History museum and have lunch. It opened about a year ago. Interesting place, with interactive exhibits and innovative displays.
They finally got the foot bridge in place connecting our building to the rest of the village here. Now we can get to the event center and other apartments and cottages without walking along a very busy street. It will make us feel more like part of the community, I think. Will be cutting the ribbon this Friday.
Dusty is home from college for a few weeks and working at his old job with the sports camps provided by the local Parks & Rec. He really buckled down this last year and got his grades up. I think that lovely lady he brings around had a lot to do with that. He’s going into his fourth year, but he won’t be graduating in the spring. Some lessons take longer to learn than others….(Like, for example, you can’t get through life on charm alone.)
Rusty is devoting his summer to becoming a better wrestler. He (and his dad) are making the rounds of wrestling camps and he is gaining muscles and skills. He did earn his varsity letter as a freshman last year, along with an academic/athletic award. This required a 3.6 gpa and a varsity letter. Since all but one of his classes were "honors" classes, we are very proud of him. Kids can be soooo different.
I need to get busy and write a story for my writing group tomorrow. Waiting for an idea….

Can’t imagine living with the fear of my house catching fire!

It is a huge scare in my life as well. And apart from that I really am illogically afraid of the wind. Don’t know why. Can we read the story as well, please? That will be really great!

Glad you are not in danger from the fires and pray they get them under control soon. I watched a piece on the news last night and beetle that destroyed so many of the trees should be burnt up in these fires I would hope.

Ugh! My fear of a house fire came true a few years ago so I hope that doesn’t strike twice in a lifetime. Last night the wind blew all of my houseplants off the porch and took a huge limb off my walnut tree. The last time it did that, it cost me $300 for cleanup. I think I’m looking at that again. Double Ugh! Congrats to Rusty!!! Glad you got your bridge! Is it one of those pretty arched bridges?
