Open Diary seems to be working pretty well this morning, so I’ll attempt to post an entry.
Papa is finally much better, although he doesn’t seem to have much energy. At least he is back to doing most of the things he was doing before: grocery shopping, going to his club meetings, doing some volunteer stuff. He had a tough few weeks. I think he aged ten years. He lost so much weight I had to go out and buy him a bunch of new shirts. He was swimming in the Large ones. Made him look even worse.
I am working on the details for his party. Have the caterer lined up and lists organized–guests, supplies, entertainment. I need to get the cake(s) ordered and the invitations mailed.
My sister is flying in from the Coast in a couple of weeks and will be here until after Thanksgiving. It will be good to see her. I have been getting things arranged in the apartment so she can have some privacy and comfort. It’s not a whole floor like she had when we lived in the house, but I think she can manage.
The last two nights have been below freezing, and yesterday was gray and spitting snow, but today looks beautiful. The trees here in town are at their peak of color. Mostly yellow and some red. Enough snow in the mountains, I hear, to begin opening some of the ski areas.
Mike’s show at our community hall was fantastic! I don’t know how he does it, but he gets better and better. A middle-aged man, living out his childhood dream…. Makes me and his Papa so proud.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading. Papa has no trouble finding a ball game to watch. Post-season baseball. I’m only paying attention to the National League right now. Don’t know if I want the Dodgers or the Cardinals to win… There are both old favorites (before moving to Denver, of course.) And Football! Well, what can I say about that? Am looking forward to Sunday when the Broncos play the Colts….
Met with our money man this week for our yearly check up. I guess we’ll make it okay, depending on how much our medicare supplemental insurance goes up….
We have temporarily disbanded one of our couples’ bridge clubs. We got down to two and a half couples. One of the women’s dementia is advancing to the point where it breaks our hearts to try to play with her…although she still plays a mean bridge game, the conversation is just about impossible. She has some physical problems as well. Her husband wanted to drop out. The other couple–well, they aren’t really a couple, just bridge partners–are having some issues and one dropped out. Rather than get into the middle of something there, we decided to just hang it up…at least until the dust settles.
I have resigned, effective the end of the year, as editor of our Fabulous Fifties newsletter. Finally got somebody to take it over. Five years is enough, even though I did enjoy doing it.
So now, I will be in a panic for something to do….
I hope your husbands health continues to improve. It’s so scary when our loved ones stay sick for a long period of time. You are so active. You always inspire me to be more active. Since it’s Fall I’m working on crochet projects. Hopefully I will finish some of them by Christmas. Lots of love,

I’m so glad he is doing better. This retirement thing is tough. Getting someone to do what you do isn’t easy.
