Poem: The saddest day
The saddest day was when I saw you smile
And realized it wasn’t me that made you.
To see, in your eyes, that I had walked alongside
All those weary miles
But that, even when you took the hand I extended,
You pretended. And I…
Carefully, excruciatingly lied
So that my heart would feel the hope
Only you and I knew had not existed
In the hollow of the soul I used to call mine,
In the shadows of the tears I cried
For you, and only you, even as you
Now walk hand in hand, without me to keep in step,
Even as my hands remain empty
And forgotten.
so sad, but beautiful
