father’s day

 

everything i am

you helped me become

you stood beneath your dream

a sword of damacles

faith,honor, honesty,

the best that you could be

no matter the cost

 

if there was a lesson you taught me

that has stuck

 it is this

do the best you can.

do better than i did.

how can anyone do that?

 i did not live your life

so it was not mine to judge

 but i have in many ways judged

 

 i think you succeeded

 in doing the best you knew at the time

 none of us knows at 30

 what we know at 50 or 60

 

life has no complete instruction book

but

 lots of suggestions

and each must puzzle out

each day from the ones before
