Sometimes a little work is a nice reset

I’ve been floundering. Working on a probable career shift, and job hunting a bit for the first time in years. I’ve been feeling generally overwhelmed and bad lately. This morning, my favorite editing client contacted me and asked me to do a tech edit for her today. It was a last-minute ask. I gave an enthusiastic, “yeah, sure, send it over”. I was slow about it, partly because I’m methodical and partly because I decided I wanted to record every little change for my own personal record (my client won’t want to see this document. I used to make them for her but she doesn’t want to know). The job took really less than an hour of my time, but I did stretch it out a little because I needed a walk before my final look at the document.  I was paid before I started, how’s that for trust? I think I did a fabulous job. I delivered it on time (my deadline was end-of-day today).  Funny how making a little cash doing something I’m competent at was good for my sense of well-being.

So, my advice to everyone, take on the little gig that will give you a little cash and a dopamine hit. It’s good for mental health and the wallet! Yay!
