OMG! This is amazing. Today is a better day. HOLY CATS!

So, I tried calling my PCP and he is way overbooked. I wouldn’t have been able to see him for well over a week. I didn’t even make an appointment because I was disappointed and wanted to sulk a bit and then call them back. So I was sulking, my phone rang, didn’t recognize the number, didn’t want to answer, but I did anyway.

GUESS WHAT?!!!! It was a psychiatrist! He’s SOOO far away but he happily made an appointment with me. He even listened to my frustrated spiel about why I was excited to hear from him. Downside, he’s only seeing new patients in person, but he’ll actually see me and it’s an office with no other people so I guess limited risk?

Also, I just looked and this dude has high ratings on reviews! (90% of the doctor’s offices I called had reviews like, “this psychiatrist refused patient care and then they came and shot my dog” (exaggeration there but not far off from some of them).

So, in a couple weeks, I get to drive 25 miles to see a psychiatrist. He was shocked that I would even call someone that far away. One doc I called was like 40 miles away and that’s insanity. Honestly, probably, I can just get diagnoses from him and then make my PCP and therapist handle the rest.

The shrinks I have seen always wanted just to give me pills and then leave me alone…..North american medical system has a lot of flaws.

@jaythesmartone Yeah. It does. I feel like pills and leave me alone is really about what I need, especially if this therapist is good. And really, this doc is so far away. Once our usual traffic picks back up, it will take a long time to get there, so I’d rather not drive there all the time anyway. Right now, it’ll take about a half-hour. I am a little infuriated that it’s so so hard to find a doc (it was a really long list that I called). Anyway, he sounds personable and even his online reviews are really good. We’ll see. Just such a relief to not have to make more calls begging for an appointment etc. Yuck. I never imagined it would be this much effort. Whew. So, today, I’m bouncing off the walls happy because I have an appointment and don’t have to beg for one anymore.

I live rural and I drive 29 miles for groceries! It will be the best 25 miles you ever drove, sweetie! Help is on the way!

@kaleidoscope-eyes Yeah, I think you may be right. I grew up in a rural area but I think I’ve gotten spoiled. We used to have to drive 25 miles for groceries. I live in an urban area where those 30 miles will take a while if traffic is bad, but hey, it is what it is and I didn’t have to beg this guy for an appointment. Help is on the way, indeed.
