I may end up with 20 pounds of flour and R.I.P. Summer

I put in a new order for 10 pounds of flour. I should hear from the post office Monday. I suspect I’m unlikely to have that resolved in a satisfactory way. So I put in a new order for 10 pounds of Bluebird. The best possible outcome would be to end up with 20 pounds of my favorite flour. I can’t buy it here, even when there isn’t a global pandemic and everyone is inexplicably panic buying flour.  If I end up with too much flour, I’m definitely experimenting with making my own sourdough starter and baking all the things (at least until the A/C bill gets too high).

I wanted to go visit a lot of family this summer. That’s looking unlikely. No one there is even remotely serious about wearing masks or anything. Luckily, this virus hasn’t hit there very hard. I hope they continue to not be. i think things will get worse here. The touristy stuff has partly reopened so our state will soon be flooded with people and cases will spike. Again, hope to hell I’m wrong.  I’m going to end up spending the entirety of Summer in this house and in my yard. Woo. Blah.

Here the ferries are staring to take people to the Islands but they are saying “stay the fuck Home” But those for essential things can go.  And I heard you guys will have a vaccine by the end of the year?

@jaythesmartone Yeah. Beaches have opened with restrictions and I guess restaurants too and curbside pick up for a lot of things. I’ll let some other people test that out. Our case numbers are still really high. I think too high to be opening up as much as we are. They’re saying we’ll have a vaccine by the end of the year. We’ll see. And a vaccine is only good if people can get it. If it’s too costly or difficult to get, then it won’t be super effective because we will need enough people to get it for herd immunity. So, will Americans get it when it’s developed and tested? Will we be able to afford to get it? Will there be enough doses? All of this remains to be seen. I’d say preventative healthcare for everyone is a pretty good argument for a healthcare system aligned with most of the rest of the world’s healthcare systems. Many others in my country disagree and think going bankrupt and dying because healthcare is inaccessible and expensive is a great deal of fun, apparently.

@apexbloom

I would like to think that this vaccine should be free and very easy to get especially those who have underlying issues should be the first to get it.  But I don’t think it will be ready for the country because there has to be trials and that could take years right?  And from what you have said it sounds like only the rich will get it and that is not right or fair.
