Every time I start reading a good book I wonder why I don’t read more often. Once I finish the book, and reach for another one, I remember why– because most books, by my standards, are not good. And if a book isn’t good, it doesn’t affect me the way I appreciate. And if it doesn’t affect me the way I appreciate, I am wasting my time. The real question, I think, is why aren’t there many good books? I can only assume it’s because I’m a weirdo, and no sane author would try to target such a small demographic as mine. The stories themselves are incidental in regards to the pleasure I extract from them– and many books that I deem great have had stories that I didn’t really like one bit. What I do enjoy, however, is the author’s voice. It find’s it’s way into my head, and soon afterwards, as long as it’s a clever one, I can hear it even when I’m not reading it– it speaks to me just beyond the externals of my ears– organizing my thoughts into metaphors, and my observations into thoughts. It’s beautiful, and I adore it…but it begins to fade the longer I go without reading.
The guy who wrote this song said it was about little else but ‘vague uncertainty.’ About sums it up for me…I love things that accidentally capture all of the cosmos in tiny shot glasses.
*hug* Miss you. I’m like that with books too. I don’t know, it just seems that so many books are poorly written. The ones that aren’t seem to bore the hell out of me as the writers spend too much time on detail. I miss the way books used to be written. As great as it is that people can self publish and what not these days, it is increasingly difficult to sort through the shit ones to find something good.

i hate getting sucked into reading a book, or a series of books ’cause everyone’s all hyped on them, only to discover that they’re just books with a decent plot. like this Millenium series by Stieg Larsson.. its okay, the plot is intricate and interesting, but it’s not worthy of RAVING about like i’ve never read a decent novel before. i don’t get it.

That’s a good strategy. Of course, I’m sure many would be interested in those entries that could’ve been.
