Think Twice: pt. 1

Trevor’s eyes narrowed and he frowned as he took in the scene across the gym. Alicia, his girlfriend, was standing near her cheerleading squads section of the gym. Some guy on the basketball team was talking and laughing with her. As Trevor watched, the guy moved closer and put his arm around Alicia. She just laughed and pushed him away. Trevor hated how innocent she always was, always oblivious to the guys hitting on her all the time. He clenched a fist and counted to ten as he started across the gym towards them.

Trevor stepped up beside Alicia and stuck out his hand with a forced smile. “Hi, I’m Trevor. Alicia’s boyfriend.” He introduced himself to the basketball player and draped his arm over Alicia’s shoulders.

“Oh, umm, I’m Rob. Nice to meet you.” He answered, hurriedly shaking Trevor’s hand and turning to leave.

“Hi Hun!” Alicia greeted with a big hug and a kiss on the cheek.

“Hi Babe, You ready to go?” Trevor asked, keeping one arm securely around her waist.

“Yep!” she replied happily, reaching for her bag. Trevor got it first and, and they headed out to his truck.

Alicia talked non-stop for the first 20 minutes about the game and the cheers they’d done, finally she slowed down as she noticed the dull silence coming from the other side of the truck. As she took in the stiff jaw, clenched knuckles on the steering wheel, and steely glare, she moved into the middle seat.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, acting concerned.

“Nothing.” Trevor said tersely through clenched teeth.

“Trevor, something’s wrong, did I do something wrong?” She put a hand on his arm and felt the muscles tense even more.

“Listen to this.” He said sharply, punching a button on the stereo. Eve 6’s Think Twice (Before You Touch My Girl) came on. When it was over she was even more confused.

“I still don’t get it, Trevor” she said.

“I’m getting really sick of your oblivion to all the guys hitting on you.” Trevor said shortly. Alicia looked hurt. Trevor glanced her way and groaned inwardly.

“It’s not your fault, Babe. It just makes me mad that you don’t see it, I’m not mad at you. I’m mad at the guys that do it.” He tried to explain.

“I don’t mean to flirt with them, do I flirt back?” Alicia asked with a pout.

“You do, but I know that don’t know your doing it. Its ok, it doesn’t matter. I’m just too jealous.” Trevor reassured. Alicia relaxed with a secret smile against his shoulder, “ok, I promise I’ll try to stop them from now on.” She offered sweetly.

“Its ok, you’re beautiful, I should expect it. I should be happy that I managed to get you.” Trevor replied, squeezing her knee and then slipping his fingers in between hers for the rest of the drive.

“Who says its oblivion?” Alicia muttered to herself as she watched Trevor drive out of her driveway.

The rest of the week went by smoothly. The amount of flirting Alicia did when Trevor was around dropped significantly, and he felt a lot happier for it.

Thursday night, Trevor decided he needed a night out with his guy friends; he called them all up and arranged it. Brett said he couldn’t go, for some unknown reason that they all assumed was a girl. Six of them headed out without him, Trevor and his best friend Joel agreeing to be the designated drivers.

Joel and Trevor sat at a table near the wall and watched the rest of the guys make fools of themselves on the dance floor and at the bar. Around 10:30, Mike and Ryan, both quite tipsy, approached the table.

“We all comed up with thish really good idea. We should go do shomething to Brett’s truck or house.” Mike explained, looking just like a little boy again, except for the slurred words. Joel and Trevor laughed, but were finally convinced as the rest of the guys tripped over and encouraged them.

They all piled into Mike and Ryan’s trucks, Joel and Trevor driving, and headed out to the acreage Brett had just purchased. Apparently Mike and Ryan had planned this whole fiasco before hand, because there was a case of toilet paper in each truck. When they finally got out there, Trevor leaned against the front of Mike’s truck and watched for a few minutes. When they got bored they snuck around the house to find out exactly what Brett’s excuse had been.
