since i promised and whatnot
so the biggest of big news, my mom got a job.
little background, she’s been in school as long as i can remember. she’s been living in university apartments, aimed at grad/doctoral students. they’re tearing down those apartments this summer, and so she was a little bit out in the cold over the whole thing. she’d been in talks to get a permanent job at the place she works as a grad assistant, but it was sort of having a lull in talks, wasn’t goign to get off the ground until the fall, etc. not to mention that finding another apartment would cost waaay more (university apartments were much cheaper than anything else in town).
well, she got a call the other day, and they’re doubling her grad assistanship hours as of today, and starting july 1, she’ll be a permanent full time salaried employee, benefits, vacation, all that jazz. i was going to be pretty worried about it, been trying not to think about it. but she’s got the job now, which is amazing for her, she can find a permanent place to live, and (selfishly) she can kick in a bit more toward the wedding. so that’s good.
pulled something weird in my neck and in some serious pain today. just waiting for it to un-crick itself.
assembled our ‘test’ wedding invite tonight, hoping to put in the paper order before we leave for san francisco
oh, that’s right, visiting san francisco next week, visitng her matron of honor and my best man. it’ll actually be our first plane trip together, looking forward to it. it’s also going to be one of the last planning times before bachelor party in april. also will be fun to get the heck out of iowa where it’s like 5 degrees, to san fran, where it’s like 60.
