[Unsung]… In Memoriam… 1941-2011
I find myself pleading with the gods
Coercing them – Provoking them
I challenge their might
I defy their malign ways
They take from man – all his soft flesh
Then call themselves "The Creator"
They draw from us – our prescious blood
And remove from it, the bearings of our souls
Return it to our eyes from whence we cry to the skies
Anguished. Grief stricken. Awake and afraid
Like newborns pulled from the womb
Thrust into light – shown no mercy
A fearful emptiness left to be filled
With God’s great love of this world
This one fragmented foundation
To waver
To fight and survive
To live on – To love in
To lose it all in our final breaths
We bid adieu to this world and the next
Aware that we will never see light reflect off our own skin again
Not of this body and not of this flesh – she departs
And I am left standing alone – with just this face she gave me
Remembering the gods in men who came before me
Giving them no hope of return
We recollect until we can no longer remember our truths
We love until we can no longer feel the sting of living
And she dies to take away the growing yearning of health
We are alone – I have no love left to give
She took those final parts of me as I gifted them to her
A final goodbye – my declaration of love to thee.
