settling in.

We purchased our new home on August 28th. 🙂 We moved in and have been slowly working on getting settled. My fall classes began on September 6th and Gabe started his new school on September 4th. It’s been a very busy month!

The house is really great. It fits our family so perfectly. I had to get used to not having the kids constantly around, and kept checking up on them every 5 minutes. We’ve had an expensive start to homeownership but doesn’t everyone? Nothing majorly wrong as of yet, just a few minor fixes here and there. We had to replace all the spindles on the deck…over 60 of them because somebody had kicked them out previous. Replace the downstairs toilet because it was not repairable at all.

The neighborhood is amazing, we really could not have asked for nicer people near us. Everyone has come over to introduce us, or stopped us along the way to say hello. Everyone waves to everyone and is extremely friendly. They gossip about the neighborhood a little as well, too. It’s definitely a small tit knit community. The sub division is only about 6 total blocks and the backside borders a lake. We do live on a bit of a busy road out in front of the subdivision, but the neighborhood is always quiet. We seem to be close to train tracks, though…we hear train horns constantly but it hasn’t become a nuisance.

Gabe started at the new public school. It only has about 500 kids from 4K-8th grade. He has to ride the bus every morning which I was a nervous wreck about but he seems to love it. His teacher is a very sweet lady. I went on the field trip to the apple orchard yesterday with Gabe, and was very surprised how patient she is. Some kids you can really tell have issues, clothes that don’t fit, etc. It’s kinda sad, but most of the children seem like good wholesome kids.

This morning Maddy and I went to the nearby post office to buy some stamps. It was so tiny I drove by it twice. We walk in to find the sweetest old lady behind the counter, who talks to us for awhile and gives Maddy treats. It’s right next to a salon who has a sweet golden retriever inside. Just another example of how truly great the people are around here.

We moved from a small town…only had about 4,500 people. I think this one is a bit smaller, but it has so much more of that small town living feel than our old town did. This really was a hidden treasure.

We are all doing well.
