Somewhere around 218 lbs which is not bad at all considering the amount of eating out that has happened in the last few weeks.

Less than a month until I’m married. Wow. Also, less than a month I’ve been at this new job, so that first sentence means two things.

My childhood best friend, since 1986, was tasked a couple of months ago with coming up with a bachelor party for me. It was a 5-10 second conversation in passing while out with the guys back in June and somewhat to my relief it’s not going to be a big thing.

Initially they wanted to do a weekend cabin retreat but I since that fell through I suspect nothing was attempted until yesterday. The only things I am to provide for the purported pub-crawl are: myself, and a list of friends I want there.

I’ve been such a recluse these last several years in the army that I don’t know who to ask, and on such short notice. They’re looking at Aug 16-17 since it would cross midnight. For some reason I said I’d magically provide that list later today, which isn’t bad from a get-the-word-out-and-see-who-can-make-it perspective.

I’m not keen on the massive drinking part. I haven’t done that in I don’t know how long. My real drinking days in the summer ended when they began, back when I was 19-20 in the 1990s. Now that I’m 35 years old that was no less than 16 years ago. That’s not to say I haven’t been drunk since but for the last, um… 6 years I’ve only enjoyed having 1-3 pints while out, and only ever had more on a special occasion, such as graduating a 3-month gruelling army course.

I have gone on pub-crawls with The Royal Society of Temperant Gentlemen twice before and consumed 3 pints across 4 locations. Once back in 2002, while at a cabin for the weekend on Canada day, I had many, many beers over the course of three days. And there have been a few sessions of “Safe Drunk Driving”, initiating in the summer of 1997 when — oh look, I was 19 — that involved an N64, Mario Kart, multiple players, and double-shots of hard liquor for the winner(s) until all were drunk. Maybe that would be fun again, since it’s been more than 10 years since I did that, but I just don’t feel like it. I’ve never enjoyed the pub crawls and I’m going to push back on that idea today because I can. I’ve been to a strip club all of once and I can actually say I’d rather go to that than do a pub crawl.

Worked late last night but feel good about the direction things are going in. It’s a time of change and I’m taking on responsibility for something that was inefficiently managed for several months but will only last one more, and planning that out professionally took extra hours. Unexpected but satisfying. I feel pride in being handed several things to work on while the big wigs are on vacation and the desire to deliver and demonstrate my capabilities.

I had a bunch of coffee yesterday — poor idea. That translated into having trouble getting to sleep and waking up at 5:30am.

Less than a month, how exciting! My bachelorette consisted of a swanky dinner and a few drinks at a nearby bar. I didn’t want to get too drunk, either. Maybe you could ask for something similar? Go to a steakhouse for some yums and then pub crawl? Even if you just keep your own drinking to a minimum. Sometimes those things are as much for the attendees as they are for the bride/groom.

RYN: memetic.ca This whole weekend has basically been one big outdoor club party in the Exchange District. If you have time tomorrow, you should go. They’ll be pumping music from noon to 11:30pm tomorrow. Click around the website and there’s a live stream somewhere… bet Sparkle will like the idea of experiencing it, whether she checks it out at the same time you go or not

er, forgot it’s 4am as I’m writing, and that would be today. IF I go again, it will be between noon and 2pm to show the girls (Patrick has zero interest in attending.) Patrick busted a tire yesterday afternoon, so it’s equally possible I’ll be out with him getting it replaced, but I CANNOT be there after 2pm because I work 3-11:30pm today. I hope you can enjoy the performance and

that my desire/intention to be there today doesn’t spoil you being able to attend. Sounds like you answered your own question, but our taste in music is something Derek and I have much in common. He introduced me to trance, etc, etc. Most of my musical exposure has come through him. I would liked to have spent the night with him listening to our type of music instead of alone as I was.

Meep; I’m rereading when they wanted to throw you a stag, and it’s typically the night before. Are you busy getting married? I feel a bit dumb :/

RYN: We didn’t have for either of us, but I was under the impression they were done the night before. *shrugs* Maybe I’m wrong! The rain cancelled my return to the event. I was somewhere in that crowd if you walked by after 8:30pm Saturday. Small, small world sometimes. I like your brother, but I assume he’s still mad at me for hurting you. Hope things work out with his cat.
