I had a baby!
It’s been a few days but having a newborn is no joke!

I will post more photos soon (I’m on my phone, still haven’t been on my computer). I will also post my birth story when I finally finish (been working on it for over 24 hours now)
Some thoughts for now though:
She is the most amazing thing that has ever happened to us.
Giving birth is the single most difficult thing I have ever done, but…I did it and I’m amazed. My doula called some friends of mine who are also doulas (they are the ones who taught my childbirth education classes, and I met my doula through them), right afterwards, and told them it was the most amazing birth she has ever seen. Later when we were talking about it she told me, “THAT…that is exactly what birth is supposed to be like”.
The morning of her second full day, I woke up, looked at her, realized she DOES look like me, and started sobbing. I sat there staring at her eating my breakfast and crying for another hour and a half.
Thinking about that now made me cry again.
Breastfeeding is one of the most amazing things in the world. It has by no means been easy- we’ve dealt with a shallow latch and a flat nipple on one side, meaning a very overworked and unhappy nipple on the other side, not to mention just how all-consuming nursing a newborn is (hello hour long sessions) but we’re figuring it all out. She’s an amazing nurser and has been since day one. I just think it’s amazing how fast I can calm her down by nursing, even if she is screaming her head off and coughing because she’s so upset.
She’s such a wee thing none of her newborn clothes fit. Same goes with her cloth diapers, she’s been in disposables so far because cloth would fall right off.
Jonathan is…amazing. I knew he’d be a good daddy but I had no idea. She is his world and she has already changed him as a person in so many ways. He’s spent the last several days doing nothing but taking care of us, bringing me food and water and pills I need to take, taking my socks off when I’m nursing, putting them back on, helping me with her latch, calming her while I take ten minutes off from nursing to take a bath. He talks to her all day long and tells her how much he loves her, and he’ll tell anyone who will listen all about her and how amazing she is.
I feel SO emotionally stable for having a newborn and being as sleep deprived as I’ve been (from the morning of the 16th to the night of the 19th, I slept a total of 9 hours…and I was in labor for 21 hours of that)…I totally attribute that to my placenta capsules. I’ve been very calm, collected, patient…the few hormonal moments I’ve had are very mild and usually just happy things like crying about how beautiful my daughter and family are.
She has dimples! Everyone who meets her comments on how cute, alert, and unnewborn like she is, and then they always go, “and oh my god, her dimples!”.
The faces she makes when she’s pooping are adorable and hilarious.
On that note, I’m going to end this entry. But I’ll sum it up by saying that I love being a mommy and she has already changed my entire world.

So incredibly proud of you. Flat nipples suck, I had two, they broke and “normalized” when he was about a year and a half I think, but the effort is worth it. I am also so thankful that you got the pregnancy and birth you both deserved. Rest up lil mama, and send lots and lots of pictures… the first one made me cry in the middle of a bar. LOL
