37 weeks 3 days
(Tuesday morning, 37 weeks)
I’ve reached that point where I feel like a ticking time bomb. There’s not really much left to do and now we’re just kind of waiting because we know she could decide to show up any day. It makes me anxious, not really in a good way or a bad way, just…anxious. Mentally and emotionally, I think I’m ready. I’m ready to meet her, to have her in my arms, to pick her name and see her face and learn her personality. So many babies are being born in my due date group and it’s just making me excited to have my own squishy little newborn love. Physically I’m doing…ok. I’m not the most comfortable, but I also haven’t reached THAT point yet. I can still tie my shoes though sometimes it takes some effort. I hate putting on pants and try not to change too often. I get terrible pain in my pelvis if I get up or roll over at night, so I’ve been trying not to do that. Sleep has been good lately, but the last two nights I was either having insomnia or bad dreams all night long. I’ve been having light days at work, though, so I just come home early and nap. I spend most of my afternoons napping, and it’s making it really difficult to get things done and get my house cleaned, but I just reach this point where I’m so exhausted I cannot move and I have to sleep. My weight varies depending on whose scaled you’re going by, but I’m up somewhere between 34-38 pounds gained depending on the time of day and the midwife is happy. I still really haven’t gained much weight anywhere but my tummy and boobs, I mean, all of my freaking pants are falling off all the time so I’m really not too worried, LOL.
I don’t eat a ton, though. I don’t have any out of control cravings, and I walk at least 4 nights a week. Plus I’m still working so it’s not like I’m stagnant.
Baby is good. Head down, and based on where her back is, I would assume she’s facing my back so that will help with labor. Her heart always sounds good, she wiggles a lot (well, not so much anymore, she’s getting kinda cramped in there), and the midwife is estimating her current weight to be high 6’s. She likes classical piano music. Her father and I do NOT, but I play it for her and she seems very happy.
My last official day of work is next Wednesday. If I’m still pregnant/not contracting/able to move after that, I may go in and do a dog or two each day, but that’s the last day I’m scheduling for at the moment. I’m worried about money but, we’ll figure it out. We always make it through in one way or another. I do have an appointment with WIC in a couple of weeks to help out with food while I’m not working.
There’s really not much left to do/get. Bags are packed, I just need to get some Luna Bars to throw in and I may freeze a batch of red raspberry leaf tea to take in to sip while I’m in labor, but I probably won’t worry about that. I’m not expecting labor to come on so suddenly that I won’t have time to brew a pitcher of iced tea, y’know?
So basically my list looks like this:
Get the house looking presentable. I would love to get it really scrubbed and clean, but that will depend on time/motivation/energy/if my nesting urge ever shows the hell up. At the least, I would like it clean enough that I’m not freaking out when I call my doulas over to be here while I labor at home, and clean enough that it looks good enough when people show up to visit after the birth, so that I don’t have to have that on my mind at all while I’m taking care of a newborn.
Set up the changing area (which is a changing pad on a dresser in her "room" which she won’t really use for quite a while…). This isn’t really a huge priority, we can change her anywhere. The diapers are clean and ready, the wetbag is hanging and ready to go, and I have a basket ready to fill with diapers and wipes so we have a little stash in our room for at night.
Get the carseat inspected. It’s in the car and looks good to me, but I want to get it checked out. The CHP office is supposed to call me back on Monday.
Make the birth playlist.
Get at least a few meals prepared and frozen.
Buy the boppy, if money allows. I think I’m kind of waiting, though, it’s possible I may not feel like I need it and if I do I have Amazon Prime so I could have one here in 2 days. Or hell, I could send someone to Target and pay a few bucks more and have one same day.
Do my belly cast. Planning on doing it this weekend.
Make the wipes
Buy some nursing pads
I think that’s it…and that list was really for me, lol. Ok, have to go get some things done before nap time.
Wow you look great!! Can’t believe you only have a few weeks to go. I never really used my boppy. I didn’t find it helped me with nursing at all but I know of other people that said it helped a ton. It just always felt awkward to me and it was hard for me to position her with it. I just used it mainly for her to rest her head on when she was awake…oh and the cats loved sleeping in it. ha. Wish Iwould have remembered nursing pads but for some reason I don’t even think I thought of those and got them after she was born. Can’t wait to see pics of her and to find out her name! 🙂
