34 weeks 6 days

If you notice any random words where they shouldn’t be in this entry, it keeps doing this thing where it moves the cursor without me noticing and starts typing somewhere completely different…

The baby is having hiccups and I’m so nauseous this morning that it’s making me feel all shook up.

I can’t believe it’s October. We’re mostly ready for this kid but I feel like there’s still a ton to do. Two babies were born in my due date group last night, I think one was 36w6ish and the other was 37w3d. I’ll be 35 weeks tomorrow, if I were to go as early as them, that’s so soon!

Ok. Trying not to freak out. Lol.

I have to go to the DMV this morning and then the whole rest of the day will be spent cleaning because our doula is coming over tonight at 7 for our first prenatal appointment and my house is a disaster! The kitchen isn’t too too bad but it’s all of the annoying time consuming stuff like scrubbing the stove. The dining room table is full of a bunch of random stuff , and the vacuum just needs a good tidying up and a very good vacuuming (sometimes I hate pets). And then the hallway/entry hall are full of a bunch of random things from the baby’s room that I dragged out there while I was cleaning it up a couple of days ago.

My priority items this week are:  get the crib up so we can figure out how exactly we’re going to sidecar it and what we need for that, get the birthing center bag packed, and get something to deliver and labor in (I’d like a comfy sports bra for the tub, but I also want some kind of gown or comfy clothing to walk around in if I leave my room to walk at any point. I really don’t want to be in a hospital gown…), make sure all of the newborn clothes and diapers are washed (pretty sure they are). I also need to remember to keep my eye out on CL for a boppy, I want one if I find a good deal but I don’t want to spend $30+. I’ll just do without one if that’s my option.

I’m so glad the weather is cooling down. I couldn’t take any more days in the 90s/100s. I almost cried when I saw rain on the forecast for later this week.

Ok, I don’t know why it’s doing this random cursor thing but I’m kinda starting to want to scream.

My dad and his wife are in town for a couple of weeks. It’s been nice getting to see them. He wanted to come next month but it didn’t work out…it would have been nice though.

We went to an event at the birthing center the other night, it was just to kind of get familiar with the midwives so we feel like we know them a little when we go into labor. I think there’s…9 total? And they work in 24 hour shifts so you’re not sure who you will end up with. I really like them all, they range from young (like barely older than me, if even that) and very passionate and excited about starting the midwifery journey, to a lot older (50+, been midwives for over 30 years), very experienced, and very wise. I loved everything they had to say. They all definitely believe birth is a very natural, normal event, and they said what they strive for is boring births, nothing exciting, just mom doing what she needs to do until it’s time to push, and then if mom/partner want to catch the baby, that’s fine with them and they’ll just sit back. I don’t know how I lucked out enough to be able to deliver at this birthing center, but I’m so glad I did. The midwives were all saying they have worked places in the past that did not allow them to actually be midwives and this is the first place where they could be free to let births go the way they feel they should. At the same time, though, they have seen the other side, and they are all familiar with working quickly if something happens and birth does stray from normal events and something needs to happen fast.

Their yearly birth totals work out to about 3 births a day, so I should see a lot of my midwife if it’s a typical day (one person at the event was asking about that because of her last experience, where she saw the OB once and then he came back in when they saw the head. The midwives said that unless you walk in with the head coming out and that’s all they can do, you will see much more of them than that, and if there are no other patients, you may see them until you’re sick of them and tell them just to get out for a while. LOL!) The nurses are on a 2-to-1 ratio so I will see her a lot, too. And of course, I’ll have Jonathan and my doula there with me at all times.

I’m excited about giving birth. It’s after that’s terrifying.

1) get a boppy. They are life saving. Plus there good for laying the baby in while you eat. 2) Gillian omalley the target brand makes a really nice comfy shelf style nursing bra that I bought to labor in and still sometimes wear. I ended up naked but would have worn it otherwise! 3) the cursor thing keeps happening to me too! I thought it was just me. 4) the birth center sounds GREAT!
