11w6d- So close!
I am so close to the 2nd trimester I can taste it! One more day! I haven’t even really been thinking about it that much but I must have been subconsciously because last night I started making baby-preparation lists. It always felt too early to do that before.
I have a general idea of what kind of diapers I’m going to get and how many of each. I want to start with a combination of prefolds, fitteds, and AIO’s while the baby is a newborn so I can decide what I like best. I’m probably going to start out with about 35-40. I don’t have the budget to buy much more than that, but I don’t want to have too few and have to do laundry all the time.
I also picked out the car seat we will most likely get (Evenflo Triumph 65), and figured out how much things like a stroller, wraps and slings, a changing table, etc…are going to cost us. I’m probably going to get mostly everything but the carseat used, either on Craigslist or from thrift stores. I have to get some kind of “containment device” like a swing for the first few months at work, when I can’t be wearing the baby. When the baby’s a little older, I’ll have a playpen for that purpose. I’d like to wear the baby as much as possible but I know that working all day AND wearing a baby at the same time could possibly kill me. I’m going to set up a nursing area at work, I haven’t figured out exactly how yet, but I will have a curtain that I can pull around us to block us from view of our customers. I’m all for nursing in public, I’m just slightly uncomfortable with breastfeeding right in front of all of our customers.
I’m getting a stroller primarily for going to/from work as well…I don’t want to bring the car every day when I live so close, and the baby and I can easily walk.
I really need to learn to cook. I mean, I can obviously cook, I can follow a recipe just fine…but I want to really know HOW to cook and be able to prepare a lot of recipes from memory. By the time the baby starts eating solids I want to eat 5-6 dinners at home each week. I’d also like to have a couple of weeks of dinners frozen before the baby comes along. I’m planning on starting my maternity leave about two weeks before my due date, so I will use that time to do that. Hopefully my baby isn’t overeager to get here, I’m gonna need those two weeks…
I still haven’t told my dad or my grandparents! I was going to literally the day my grandpa had the stroke…I came home to email them, and instead got the text from my sister to head to the hospital. I emailed my dad that night to let him know what was going on with my grandpa…it just seems so complicated now! It seems like a really bad time to tell my grandma, and my dad is in Mexico worried about my grandpa and I don’t really want to overwhelm him with news right now.
*sigh*
I had definitely intended to tell them by my second trimester, because I wanted to be able to announce on facebook by 13 weeks at the latest.
Oh well. It’s not that big of a deal, I’ll be able to tell them soon.
I got completely distracted from this entry cleaning my bathroom. I’ll post Monterey pictures soon!
Prefolds are the easiest and cheapest for the newborn stage when you are going through so many. I got mine used from a local diaper service.

Newborn diapers can get really pricey really fast and are used for sub a short amount of time that it’s hard to justify the cost. Have you looked into a newborn diaper rental? That way you get to try out a lot of different things and you only keep what you like! Also, why the triumph? I’ve never heard great things about that seat at all… Harder install, etc. my two top recs are the chicco

Obviously I noted the above cars eat info while half asleep.. Duh, the triumph is a convertible, and then I go recommending bucket seats…. I still maintain the triumph isn’t a fave… I haven’t tried it myself but just have never heard good things. I’d go with either the Myride 65 or a true fit (or true fit premiere) if you can afford that much.

The nice thing about buying infant prefolds is that you dont lose much when you sell them. Just buy em used and youll lose maybe $20 in shipping. You can always text me with questions if you want. I know I have a bunch of **** coming back from phoenix someday, Ill go through my cloth and see what Ive got. I doubt i have any newb stuff, but I bet I have some nice slings.
