[1 week] Pictures and things

I still need to upload the ones from her birth/first few days, but here’s some recent ones to hold you over. It’s crazy that one week ago today I was laying in bed recovering, probably being stitched up…in so many ways it feels like a year ago.

On Monday I need to check in on what’s happening with Adelaide’s insurance and switch her pediatric care to a pediatrician I found who is supposed to be very accepting of… Natural/attachment/green parenting? Not really sure what you would call it, but he’s supportive of breast feeding and not vaxing. We took her to a checkup on Wednesday and…it was just stupid. She was 3.5 days old and we there for over 3 hours. We were so sleep deprived and hungry it wasn’t even funny, I was still very anemic from the birth but I had to stand the whole time because the chair in there kept making my already bruised tailbone spasm.

The nurse was a moron and Jonathan and I almost chewed her out multiple times, like once when she scolded Jonathan for reaching out while she was weighing her because she was about to wiggle off the table, or refusing to answer him when he was asking (just curiously at first) what she was doing when she was checking her bilirubin. She was just really rough with her the whole time and really rude with us. We then waited for another hour and a half to see the pediatrician, who wasn’t happy that she was down from 7 lbs 3 oz to 6 lbs 9 oz. She was 3.5 days old! My milk had come in the day before, and she knew we were having latch issues on one side, but we also told her she had peed 6 times in the past 24 hours and pooped 4 times- more than acceptable for a not even 4 day old! Her weight hadn’t even got to the 10% loss mark, which is where you MIGHT start worrying in the first week.

I”m just frustrated I let her worry me. She recommended I pump and supplement with a finger syringe, which I didn’t do (we got the nipple shield instead so she could just nurse on that side), and that I wake her every 2 hours to eat. She also told me to take her down to the local baby store where they have a scale to reweigh her over the weekend. OVER the weekend, meaning Saturday or Sunday. So she calls on Thursday (Thanksgiving, right during dinner) with a blocked number which I don’t answer, to see if we had weighed her. She called again the next night at 8:30 pm, again from an unknown number, and again I didn’t answer because I didn’t expect my pediatrician to be calling from an unknown number at 8:30 on a Friday night! I couldn’t call her back because she didn’t leave a number, she said if we were having problems to call the answering service and a pedi on call would return our call. So today she calls my SISTER (our emergency contact) to say she can’t get a hold of us! What the hell? It just seems so weird to me. Adelaide has a weight recheck with her on Monday but I think I’m going to cancel and make an appointment with that other pediatrician instead.

Anyway…rant over. Although, I will say that I did take her to the baby store today and she’s back up to 6 lbs 13.8 oz, so mama’s milk is doing just fine. WHICH I already knew from diaper output, nursing behavior, and general behavior. My kid is by no means starving, she loves her milkies and gets plenty of them. My nipples can vouch for the one hour sessions we’ve seen, I always think she may eventually nod off, but nope, she just sits there looking happy as can be nursing away.

I need to get ready to go grocery shopping but I’m trapped under a baby, so I’m going to try to lay her down and keep her asleep so I can get dressed. At least she loves the car!
