(Dis) Orientation

It’s been a whirlwind couple of days. When i got the information pakcet over the summe I coudlnt’ understand why on earth we needed a week-long orientation. Now I understand! For one thing registering must be done in-person here rather than automated over the phone or via the computer. Ugh!! My parents had to deal with that when they were in college — in the 1970’s!!!! With the amount of money I’m paying you’d think they’d have an automated system *sighs deeply* But I am at last registered for calsses and all paid up for the semester. My laon doesn’t cover the whole cost of tuiton and room and board so I had to pay some out of pocket. But i still have enough ot live on until I get a job.

Then there’s my hosuing. Aparently the building they mvoed me into is unfurnished. (the other one came furnished) They DID tleave me a message about it but Brain never gave me the message (GRRRRR) So I got the shock of my life when I wlaked up to the third floor expecteing a bed and a dresser and all I saw was an empty room. My parents siad I looked ont he verge of tears. I was. But Vash was sooooooo helpful!! Her bubbly optimism over how cool my room was (it wasn’t as large as I expected) rubbed off on me. And we were able to get furnature, a rollaway cott and a small desk and chair. And now I’m having fun setting up my own private space.

My romates are pretty nice though I haven’tseen them much. And the other new grad student never moved in.

It hans’t been totally bad here either. I LOVE the location of my aptartment. There’s soo much to see and do! I have a piano bar two doors away and a sports club down the street and more resturants within a three block radius than I could ever possibly eat at. Ahhhhhh variety!!! And the other psych students are pretty nice. I met these two girls Laura and Rachel (hah!) yesterday and each of htem are taking at least one callss with me. And it was cool cause after the day-long orientation (it thought it was gonna be shorter) the three of us and about 5 other ppl went to this Xando and sat outside and didn’t order anything but just sat and talked. The people here are so cool! There’s this guy Justin who’s getting his masters in philosophy (the onlyl other person I’ve met so far who came here straight from undergrad) and is interested in how Philospohy applies to everyday life, this guy Robbie who seems pretty cool and this guy from Denmark whose name I cna’t remember, and a whoel bunch of other cool ppl.

Today I finally finished registering for classes. What insantity! But I met this cut guy in line named John. Hehelped me beat the lines some cause this is his third year (i htink he’s undergrad but took time off in between) so he’s an old pro at it. And he gave me his email address. I’m gonna wait a little bit and then see if he wants to meet for coffee or something over the weekend cause he seems pretty cool.

Anyhow now I’ve gotta go get my student ID photo taken . Then I think I”ve tkaen care of all the administrative bullshit. Go me!!! Now time to tlurn my attention back to setting up my apt. I need groceries. Sigh.
