The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
Set between London and the Guernsey Island the book follows Juliet through her letters and correspondence. While searching for her next book idea she comes across the island of Guernsey and the people who live there. This is not a typical love story book, instead it shows a woman falling in love with a life she never knew existed in a place she barely gave second thought. As the world recovers from world war 2 this book shows the aftermath of the bombs, concentration camps, and broken families and homes. This book explores what happens when German Soldiers are stuck on an island just as much as the people they are occupying.
As Juliet corresponds with her new friends and explores her wants for her life she teaches us a little bit about everything. She teaches us how to be good friends, neighbors, and even members of society. We all could learn something from this book, lest we forget the atrocities that have occurred in the name of war.
(I have passed the book on to my daughter. Once they both read it we will watch the movie)
One of my favorite books. I bought it several years ago because I liked the title, but could not get any of my kids to read it.
@catholicchristian Im hoping I can get mine to read it they are studying the holocaust and are actively looking for even semi related books
