GO JETS !!!

Today, we get to see if quitters can get their just desserts.

—————–

First, a quick side note on a neat little spelling mnemonic:

Desert – dry, arid wasteland that receives little precipitation.

Dessert – The best part of a meal, usually sweet. No matter how full you are, the secret second stomach reaches up, grabs you by the throat and says, “FEED ME”

Here is the mnemonic: Count the “s”. You only want one desert, but you want TWO desserts.

—————–

And now, back to our regular, non-scheduled rant.

On the last game of the season, the Indianapolis Colts infuriated their fan base, and caused a massively polarized media and internet firestorm. They did this by pulling their regular players out during the second half of the game in order to “rest and keep from injury” the first string in preparation for the post-season. They were winning at the half, but lost the game without the first string in there, thus ruining a chance for a perfect season on the last game of the season.

They quit. Whatever the reasoning behind it, they quit.

These are professional, highly (some say way overly) paid players who know the ricks and signed up to play THE FULL SEASON giving nothing less than their very best. Well, the fan base claimed breach of contract and IMHO rightly so.

To whom did the Colts lose? The Jets. Instead of ending the season with a perfect record, and knocking the Jets out of contention, the Colts folded and lost. Thus allowing the Jets to proceed, via wildcard, into the post season. Quite expectantly, they won against the Chargers and advanced further. Now, the Colts get to play the Jets so see who advances to the Superbowl.

Indianapolis is favored to win, and by a decent margin, but I am rooting for the team that DIDN’T quit, and rooting for them all the way. THAT will teach the Colts, and in general a lesson to kids and adults everywhere, that when you quit it will come back and bite you in the ass. And if the Colts DO win, then the lesson learned is an old one, and not nearly as satisfying — Life is not always fair.

GO JETS !!

I honestly, hate the Jets and the Colts being a New England fan, but it seems that the Jets are the lesser of the two evils. So um, go NFC? 😉 Good to see you back. 🙂

Ah, but in the legal world, it is “just deserts” for some odd stupid reason. http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/just_deserts “The More You Know” (star-rainbow-swish!)

I use that spelling thing all the time. I used to have trouble figuring out which was the right way to spell it until i realized that I always wanted more dessert than desert… ha ha…
