My youngest sons birth story
Tylers birth story is a total opposite of Codys…With Cody my prenancy was uneventful, and even though he was born early, their werent any problems. Tyler on the other hand was a whole new experience.
To get the jist of it…I went into labor at 27, 29,30,33 weeks. I spent so much time at the hospitals that I knew all the nurses by name.
At 32-33 weeks I spent a long 5 days in the hospital. They had me on IV meds to keep him from coming. I was having a fit because I was so tired of the hopsital and the medicines. I had already decided that once I went home this time I wasnt coming back til it was time for Tyler to come out. I told Russ that I was staying home until the last possible moment, cause I didnt want my labor stopped any more.
After those 5 days they sent me home on medication that I HAD to take every 2 hours. It was not fun and if I missed I went back into labor. I made it to 35 and a half weeks..WOO HOO..and I didnt have to take the meds any more. That was on Monday night that I took my last pill. Tyler was born the next morning at 9:17 a.m.
I woke up at 6 and the same as with Cody..But this time I knew what it was. I called Russ at work, (he was working third shift) he was set to come home at 7:30 so there was plenty of time we thought. I went downstairs to the basement to wake up my sister in law.(they moved in to help me while I was pregnant) She was going to watch Cody til Russ dad came to get him and take him to preschool. I got in the shower and then called my mom and dad..they had just moved in March about 70 miles away. Once again I am in “labor” with no pains…..Russ gets home and I am packed and ready. I told him to go ahead and take a shower we had plenty of time. His dad got there and we had Cody up and he was getting scared cause of all the activity in the house. He cried when I left without him, I so wanted to take him with us but we couldnt due to the fact we didnt know what was going to happen.
We get in the truck and head for the hospital. Its 8:15 in the morning..Day after Memorial day..so the highway is packed. all at once the pain got unreal. I looked at russ and told him that the baby was coming and he floored it down the side of the highway and we made it to the hospital at 8:40. They already knew me at the hospital so they waved me up the stairs.
The put me in a room and the nurse said she would be back in a minute. I took one look at russ and he went and got the nurse. She checked and I was at 8. She went to find a dr and I had asked her for something to just take the edge off the pain. I didnt want major meds and I didnt want an epidural. I didnt need any of that with Cody and I didnt want to use it with this one but he was killing me.
I started screaming and the nurse comes in..Looks “down there” and says whatever you do DON’T PUSH…The dr was coming in the door and she says..LOOK…and he rushes over..the nurse comes up by me and starts injecting this pain med in my IV and one little push and Tyler Jay was born. 6lbs 10ozs 19 inches long. Born May 28,1996 9:17 a.m.(due June 30,1996)
Tyler wouldnt breathe on his own. They took him straight from me to the NICU. Russ went with the baby, seeing as how I couldn’t. I got cleaned up and my parents showed up and they all went to see the baby that I had only glimpsed for a brief second. I got to see my baby through a video camera lens. Not fun at all. They finally suctioned him out really good and he started breathing and remembering to breathe on his own. 3 hours after his birth I got to hold my new son for the first time.
Back track during those 3 hours. I spent the entire time calling all over the place trying to track down my in laws with my 3 year old son. I wanted him with me in the worst way. Everyone asked me how the new baby was and all I could say is he looked just like Cody did when he was born. I was obsessed with finding my “baby” (Cody) and I wasnt really to concerned that the new baby was in the NICU. That sounds so horrible now, but at the time I didnt care. Russ was with him. Finally I got to talk to Cody and he was so excited to know that he had a brother. But my in laws refused to bring him up to the hospital. They said he was to young to. Made me soo mad..but finally they brought him a little later.
Tyler came home in 4 days.
Wow. That was an interesting story! You are so lucky that you didn’t have a lot of pain till near the pushing part. 🙂
