Hi~wish me luck
I have a meeting with Cody’s school today. A little background. Cody has dyslexia. The school is failing him miserably as far as HELP. They are supposed to be doig all this stuff to help him, but they aren’t doing it. For instance, Codys reading is WAY below the average for a 6th grader. I know this and the teachers know this, therefore; he is in a special reading and writting class. BUT, he is in normal math, social studies and science classes. That is just fine, but they are supposed to have a tutor or someone to read him the test questions for the tests. Codys main problem right now is not being able to get what is in his brain to come out on paper. We studied for a social studies test last week for 2 and a half hours. I READ the pages to him and asked him the study questions that the teacher sent home to go over. He knew ALL of the answers the first time I asked the question on almost all of them. But when it came to the test the next morning (we even went over key stuff before he left for school) he got a 46%. What the hell? I asked him the questions on the test when he brought it home and he still onl missed like 4 of them. He can not read a question and comprehend it. I have taught him to read the question at least 2 times before he answers, and if he is unsure of the answer read it again. I even told him that after he finishes the tests, to go back over some of them to be sure they make sense. He is the very LAST child to turn in his tests, and he has been doig this and has improved a little, but not enough.
I am just fed up with the school not doing their part. there is NO reason why a 6th grader should have 5 hours of homework EVERY night.
So the school better be ready because I am not alone in my disappointment and anger. My mother in law is joining me in this meeting and we are not going to back down at all. We are already checking into either having my father in law homeschool him or a private school.
so think of me today at 1 ohio time. May even see me on the news getting hauled out in handcuffs.
I must get to work so I can leave at noon.
Have a good one
Wow. I hope something can be done so he gets more help, even if it does come down to a private school or homeschooling. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for him to know the information but not do as well as he could in school because he’s not getting the help he deserves.
