(ya’ll are) Rocking me…..

ETA: YOU guys rock!!!! I’m going to have a HUGE list of music to buy next time – keep em coming!!!

Okay.

So, I had always HEARD of Queen right? I mean, who living in today’s day & age HASN’T heard of Queen? But I didn’t really know anything about them – I thought they might be one of those headache (at least for me) inducing hard core screaming rock/metal bands.

But – last time I was buying music, I picked up Queen: Greatest Hits – We Will Rock You Edition.

And.

DUDE!!!!!! Queen did all THESE songs? I’ve been alternating between feeling like I need to do a proper headbanging (with rock on hands thrust in the air), and feeling like I should have a lighter held up and swaying. I’m throughly enjoying this!!

So.

What other rock (metal? pop? the heck IS Queen?) bands have I potentially missed out on through pure raw avoidance?

I’m not even going to talk about how buying (not even LISTENING to – jsut buying) the We Might Be Giants album opened my eyes to a world of inside jokes I didn’t. even. know. I. was. MISSING!

So – culturally speaking – who else should I be looking out for?? Hrrrmmm?

*rocks out*

Although they might not be considered music to be “rocked out” to, I thoroughly enjoy Heart, Journey, and Simon & Garfunkel.

Oh yeah, Journey is a good call.

March 1, 2007

I’ll second the Heart and Journey. And you can never go wrong with Pink Floyd and Zeppelin. I think Queen can best be referred to as “opera rock.” 🙂

Oh, yea, QUEEN is one of MY Favorites – and I love Heart – and Journey, too. Queen did the soundtrack to “Highlander”, one of THE best movies EVER!!

AC/DC & Metallica?

March 1, 2007

I agree with some of your noters – Journey and Pink Floyd.

Metallica, Aerosmith, Journey, Pink Floyd- would *I* steer you wrong?

The Eagles?

*Gasp*! You didn’t know who Queen is? Todd and I were jamming to Bohemian Rhapsody in his beat up 1976 Mustang II years before Wayne’s World was a movie. Other suggestions… some are perhaps a bit more obscure, but all worthwhile. The Lightning Seeds The Replacements (Fizzy Fuzzy Big & Buzzy) – GREAT album Squirrel Nut Zippers Mighty Mighty Bosstones Any Extreme album (Pornograffiti recommended) I could keep going, but those’ll get you started. -R

Matthew Sweet has some jams. Him and John Mayer’s new album. That one is good. I hate Journey, personally LOL.

do you like lyrics or music more? lyrics- Metallica (older is better) Pink Floyd, oh damm why can’t I think of anyone- Tom Petty, The Traveling Wilburrys not at all loud, cool music. Joe Walsh. if you want sound & don’t care about care about lyrics, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Poison, Def Leopard, Aerosmith, Skid Row- not that those bands don’t have some cool lyric based songs too- but I’d say they’re more musically cool than lyrically cool ya know.

March 1, 2007

oh forgot Iron Maiden

HAHAHA metallica and mighty mighty bosstones dont really fit this category, you cant go wrong with journey & pink flloyd. Maybe Eric Clapton, for mellower rock. Mighty Mighty Bosstones is good if you are into kind of Big Band/Jazzy stuff. Trombone work, and such.

oh geez… the list is long… Well I grew up worshiping Led Zeppelin..any album from them.. If you want something truly fun try Flogging Molly (Swagger, and Drunken Lullabies are two awesome albums) .. if you want something moody there’s Portished… oh my.. sooo many bands..

Oh, I love Queen so much! And although I do love the upbeat ones, I also love ‘These are the days of our lives’. Beautiful, beautiful, song. Glad to hear you sounding a bit more upbeat.

!!! BTO (Bachman Turner Overdrive), Meatloaf (his first album–Bat out of Hell). I’ll think of more and be back. With a smile…

A few people mentioned Journey, Totally! Though Queen can’t be beat. 😉

March 2, 2007

Yup. Journey gets my vote.

If you like Queen, you’ll probably like Cat Stevens, Simon and Garfunkel, and maybe some Bob Dylan.

I LOVE Queen. I am so glad you have finally gotten wise. 🙂 There’ve been some good suggestions here. I can’t believe how many big time Journey fans there are. Heh. As far as older bands you need to know (if you don’t know a lot of their music) – The Who and The Stones. I am also huge on The Grateful Dead. Of course, The Police. Barenaked Ladies. Oh man – there is just too much.
