Steve Irwin

I suppose by now most have heard the tragic news of Steve (The Crocodile Hunter)  Irwin’s death on the weekend. Surprisingly the announcement really hit me hard. Somehow, even though I’ve never met him in person, he felt like a friend. From listening to various media coverage I’m not alone in feeling that way. From his infectious smile and energy and his sincere love of  wildlife, Steve connected with people through his fun and educational shows. He had almost a  innocence about his wonderful boyish enthusiasm that shone through in his shows that captured my interest and my heart. Steve was so passionate about respecting and preserving wildlife that you had to respect him for it.  He seemed invincible and it’s still hard to believe he’s gone. As my dad said, at least he died doing what he loved. I guess that has to count for something and maybe it will help ease some of the pain for his wife Terry , his family and friends. My heart goes out to them. The world has lost a great and unique soul. God bless Stevo!

There was just something so personable about him, I too felt like he was a friend, though I’d never met him. When I first heard he had been seriously injured I automaticall thought “He’ll pull thru.” He was just one of those people you don’t expect to die, I guess. RIP Steve 🙁

He was a crazy bugger, and I liked him a lot. With a sigh…
