Blue Monday…

Okay, I think I’m finally thawing out. It’s like winter again outside. No snow (thank heavens), but pretty frigging chilly, me dears! The weekend was miserable weather but nice for staying warm & cozy inside.

We had a bit of news on the weekend. My brother-in-law Jason’s brother, Robby got engaged. He’s only met the girl about 2 months ago! It’s kind of fast, but they seem crazy about each other.  She’s from Trinidad and her husband died of cancer two years ago leaving her to raise two kids. I had a little crush on Robby for a while so it’s kind of weird for me. I do wish him every happiness although we all are concerned that he’s rushing into things. He’s never had a serious relationship before and we’re not sure he’s really in love ,or just in love with the thought of being in love. If you know what I mean.  Well time will tell. I was joking with Brenda that now her mother-in-law, Anita will now have another daughter-in-law to hang around with.  ; )

You may remember I was telling you about some of the extra duties they’ve piled on our plates at work in the past year. Well a couple of months ago we were told that we had to do a presentation on a portion of our bank’s code of conduct. Each employee has to sign off on the code of conduct every year as part of our terms of employment. Usually we just read the thing and sign a copy for our files. But our new supervisor decided that we all had to do a presentation or skit to perform for the rest of the department in our team meeting.  As you probably know I’m pretty shy. It’s a real hardship sometimes for me to get up in front of anyone — even family members. So, I was really upset and angry that this was being forced on us. My boss kept saying it would be fun and I would say that it’s not fun for everyone. For some people it can be a truly difficult and uncomfortable thing. And I was not the only staff member to feel that way.   Anyway, there was no getting out of it and I had no idea of what I was going to do. The night before the presentation I was still wracking my brain on what I was going to do. I was absolutely against a skit of any kind and didn’t want to just read the section to the group. Then suddenly it hit me …a song. Something bouncy, relatively simple and easy to remember, yet fun that would get the point across and help them remember the important points.  This is what I came up with …

Code of Conduct – Objectivity

(To the tune of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You come in to the office bright
Your boss says you gotta live your life right
Oh team-mate dear you’ve been a fortunate one
And large gifts are not any fun
Oh those big gifts just aren’t any fun
The phone rings in the middle of the day
The bank says don’t accept a big bribe
No cash, bonds or securities
And large gifts are not any fun
Oh those big gifts just aren’t any fun
That’s what the bank wants
No impropriety
When the working day is done
And large gifts are not any fun
No those big gifts just aren’t any fun
All decisions made by you
Must be unaffected by thoughts of personal gain
For you, your family, or friends
And large gifts are not any fun
No those big gifts just aren’t any fun
That’s all they really want
No
Other obligations
When the working day is done
Large gifts — are not any fun
They’re not any fun
They’re not any fun…
It went over great. They all sang along and laughed. Our manager had joined the meeting (talk about even more pressure) and she was raving about the song to all the other managers on the floor. Several even asked me to give them copies of the song to share with their teams. I was rather gobsmacked about the whole reaction. But I have to say I was pleased that it went over so well. 😀
Well that all for now. Hope you all have a great week .
Hugs!
Ainekate, that was brilliant ! And I bet it went a long way toward breaking your fear of public speaking. A class in that cured mine. We were a room full of students with the same problem. We grew out of our stage fright, having fun doing it together
Am glad the presentation went well, maybe this will boost your confidence a little? Youve done it once and all that… Well done you Hugs x
