Leaving tonight
Yes, after a whole lot of hemming and hawing, we are going to London this summer after all…it’s bloody awkward, but it would have been kinda sad had we decided not to, so I’m not complaining. We’re only going for a week this year and Ben and I will have to share a room, still a trip to London is a trip to London, and tomorrow afternoon I’ll arrive at Heathrow and see the English pavements and smell the damp air and remember just why I love that city so much.
It’s been a sad few days, not for any real reason. I find I miss Geoff, couldn’t explain why but I do. Sam G from Canada is coming into town for a whole month, next week while I’m not here. I have mixed feelings — I don’t want to be stuck again, but, well, something in me does, of course. I can’t wait to see him again. I talked to Darcy on the phone recently and somehow we got onto the topic of Robbie and I told her about the train letter I’d written him, and she said she was sure he loved it but he wouldn’t write back to me just because he’s absolutely atrocious at staying in touch. That made me feel a lot better. I think I had honestly decided that he hadn’t written because I’d mortally offended Paul by not writing him as nice a note. There goes that theory.
I think when we get back from London I’ll send him an email asking to be reminded which episodes of Seinfeld it was he particularly wanted me to watch. He’ll write back to that — that’s business. Not quite what I had in mind, but better than nothing, eh? Darcy says she thinks that we’re on the same wave-length intellectually and that we’ll have a "really good working relationship." Not quite what I had in mind, but it’s a start.
Katie, Jesse’s little sister, had her Bat Mitzvah on Saturday, which was lovely except that it was outside and now I have possibly the worst sunburn of my life (and in very odd places, too — the dress I was wearing had a weird cut).
So I have a new show to obsess over, and it’s all Robbie’s fault. No, fools, not Seinfeld, I still don’t get what’s so funny about Seinfeld. I mean, yeah, I get the jokes, it’s not that I don’t find it funny. I just don’t find it special. What I do find special is Frasier. Anyone who has never seen this show should check it out, paying, as Robbie told us, particular attention to the character of Niles. I am also watching Law and Order at Brendan’s request, to get the hang of judges. (I’m playing one in his show, along with the traditional Charlotte — he’s doing an interesting adaptation of Charlotte’s Web. With a judge in it.) I was sick yesterday and I stumbled across a Law and Order: SVU marathon which I watched for seven hours because I was too tired to even get up without difficulty, and it’s good but the characters are kinda samey and have no relationships. So there went that for "really good TV show" status.
I think that’s about all…I’ve interviewed with like six families to babysit and I have dates booked formally with two of them and informally with one; the other three haven’t called yet but I maintain hope for two of them. One family has twins and they’re so cute! 🙂
Anyway, I’m off to London tonight, so I’ll be out of touch for a week unless I get desperate and duck into an internet cafe like usual. But not writing in here for a week isn’t so unheard of these days, so don’t expect to hear from me.

The Frasiers I’ve seen were very good ~ one about a spelling bee? My mom’s a big fan. ~Katie
