It’s Raining~~~
Its raining ~ a gentle rain, a soothing refrain, even though I have hours of work yet to complete, I pause briefly to embrace the comforting patter, patter of the rain falling softly outside. Ive always loved the rain. My memory is rich, recalling those days that I spent at the lake as a child, canoeing along the shoreline and watching the rain make its way across the water to me. I can sit here at my computer and still feel the freshness of those satin-like drops falling ever so softly upon my face. Then there were the evenings that I would curl up in my favorite chair on my Aunts porch that overlooked the lake. With only sudden streaks of lightning illuminating the dark grey surface of the water, I would gaze across the lake for hours as a summer storm scented the air, and whispers in the wind carried my untold hopes and dreams into the night sky. After the rain, a chorus of bullfrogs serenaded me to sleep, and many a morning my Aunt scolded me for sleeping on the porch and not going to bed like a proper young lady. (New England ethics, you understand 🙂 But the scolding never dampened my spirits for I would be out bright and early to pick the wild berries that grew on the mountainside along the logging trail to my Aunts cabin. Most of the time she would forgive me and my Huckleberry Finn ways because I always returned with a full bucket of berries for her jams and pies. Something that my brother and my cousins refused to do. She was a traditional New England lady and often would take first prize in the county fair with her home-baked goods. She always set an elegant table whether it was for a family dinner or for guests. In many ways, I admired her a great deal. I also remember evenings, not so long ago, when I danced in the rain and But, then thats another story~ *smile*
I hope there are moments in your life when you pause to embrace that which comforts you~
I grew up with a llove for picking blackberries. Din’t eat many ( until mom turned them into pies and cobblers ). Wife was even more so, and introduced me to thimbleberries and wild strawberries. They are much tastier than the store ones

I guess I am an odd man out (term) because I like blackberries better when they are still red right before they turn black. My mom made homemade blackberry dumplings when I was a kid and it was wonderful. We have seen alot of rain here lately because it is the season for it. It is like the North’s snow. It is cold and chilling but is the beginning sign that spring is near.

In my younger day, I remember that rain really brought the craziness/happiness out of me. Used to love driving in the rain, also. It does have more of a soothing sound, nowadays. ‘Proper young lady’: I remember my mom also using those kind of terms when growing up here in NE. But, I don’t ever hear them, anymore. Maybe there isn’t a feeling anymore of what’s proper, anymore? *smiles* Bri

Dear friend, your writing is so vivid and detailed. I can picture you at the lake looking out over the water during that summer storm. Rain is magical when you think about it. And, the sounds are so soothing, especially when looking out the window and listening or sitting on a porch. Thank you for sharing these memories.
