South Beach
My 20-year high school reunion is quickly approaching, and I felt the need to at least try to lose a little weight before the date arrives. My friend M has recently started on the South Beach diet, and it sounded interesting, so I bought the book and informed DH of our new eating habits. (He’s a good sport, he knows he needs to lose weight too so he just follows my lead.)
We started Phase 1 on Saturday, and I’ve been in a bit of a sugar-detox slump, but I’ve stuck with it so far. I needed a little bit of encouragement this morning, so I stepped on the scale – and was pleasantly surprised to find I’ve lost 7.4 lbs. since Saturday! I’m sure most of it is water weight, but it’s still exciting 🙂
Here’s hoping this is a long-term eating plan I can actually stick with. The book is fascinating, particularly since it’s written by a cardiologist – heart disease is what killed my dad, so anything I can do to improve my overall health is very appealing to me. At my last physical a few weeks ago, I was alarmed to learn that my triglycerides are a bit high, but this diet should take care of that in a matter of weeks or months.
I’ll be interested to hear how it goes! Good luck! 🙂 Getting healthy is always a pain, but it’s totally worth it in the end. Also – 20 years? You don’t look like it!
