Almost Human

That was literally the worst cold I’ve had in, well, ever.  The kids and DH had it for a bit, but they recovered much more quickly than I did!  I was a snotty, coughing mess for over a week, and it ended in a 72-hour bout of nausea that was simply hideous.  I’m finally starting to feel somewhat normal today, but I’m still exhausted and being very cautious about what I put into my poor addled tummy.

Today was a little bit crazy; I was scheduled to volunteer at the kids’ homeschool co-op, and after their regular classes they had a Valentine’s Day party.  Then we came home and I let them open the packages their my mother and MIL sent them for V-Day; I texted DH a picture of the results with the caption, "Our mothers hate us".  The kids are unbelievably sugared up right now, but fortunately they’re still behaving fairly well.  I ordered them a heart-shaped pizza from Papa John’s for dinner; for DH & I, I’m making steak au poivre and rosemary roasted potatoes.  I hope to be in bed early, and maybe I’ll have enough energy to get back on the treadmill tomorrow morning…

This weekend is my mother’s 75th birthday, and I’m driving the kids down to surprise her.  My oldest brother is coming too, he’s flying in to Tampa Friday afternoon and I’m hoping to time our drive just write so that I can pick him up at the airport and drive the last two hours with him.  I don’t get to see him very often, so it will be lovely to spend time with him – I think the last time I saw him was at my sister’s husband’s funeral a little over two years ago.  This is a much happier occasion!

I need a nap, but I’m afraid if I close my eyes the kids will destroy the house.  I think it’s a risk worth taking at this point.

I’m so sorry you’ve been so sick! Sounds like it may have been a nasty virus. 🙁 Hope you feel better soon!

I’m glad you’re feeling better! I had about two weeks of miserableness too. This time of year is no good! If you don’t write before then, have a great weekend surprising your mom!
