The Promise of the Full
I beat my chest.
I beat it so hard
that my ribs cracked
and my lungs bruised
like apples tumbling
down a temple’s stairs
and i could almost grab it,
wherever it is.
I asked you,
And you did not know.
Shrugging, your hair fell
across your face,
tiding shadows on the pale;
a half moon dimmed by
the promise of the full.
