seasonal delights

A lot of people look forward to the upcoming Christams season for various reasons.  Some of you selfish people look forward to the presents.  Time off work comes with it usually and thats pretty good.  Of course we all know that Christmas is a farce that is only kept alive for commercial purposes.  However, there is something good that comes from this time of year.  That my friends is mandarin oranges and egg nog.

Two of the greatest tasty delights come out as of now and will be here till mid january or so.  Who doesnt like those little oranges.  SO easy to peel, no seeds, taste explosion, you can fit like four in your mouth at once.  They are simply the best of the orange family, and rank pretty high in the overall fruit family too.

Egg nog is plain awesome.  I know that some of you may not like egg nog, but perhaps you just havent explored what can be done with it.  Try using it in your coffee instead of cream.  Or put some in your hot chocolate.  Try it over ice with some baileys.  Or add some Kahlua.  The possibilites are endlesss.  Last night i made my own concoction of hot chocolate, hazelnut flavored coffee, kahlua and egg nog.  The result?  Pure awesomeness.  Why does this only come out this time of year?  Must be something to do with politics.

One thing i recomend not doing is making your own egg nog.  After finding a recipe and trying to make some egg nog in the summer, i discovered that without modern day chemicals, it just isnt the same.  What you can do though is buy a carton and then freeze it until summer.  Just make sure that once you dethaw it you use it up in a few days.  Mmmm.

I think ill have an orange.

after looking this over, i realized that i dont think “dethaw” is a word. It seems to be some kind of mixture of “thaw” and “defrost”. I think i made up another word.

dethaw would mean the oposite of thaw. so i guess its an alternate to freeze. neato. pumpkin scones are another seasonal delight. toasted with honey and accompanied by chai tea… excuse me as i wipe up this drool pile
