Bastards on the escalator

Now that im in the big city, there are actually many new things that i can rant about.  There have been pros and cons to my latest move.  One of the cons is that obviously there are more people.  As we all know, many people are morons or just inconsiderate in general.  Lets talk a little about escalator protocol.

An escalator is put in place so that we dont have to climb stairs.  That is why they were invented.  Another great piece of technology that we can all enjoy in this age and in this part of the world.  But some people seem to be confused as to how these work.  Its really quite simple.  You stand on it, and it takes you to where you are trying to go.  It lets you take a break from walking.

As i try to enjoy my 30 seconds of relaxation, someone struggles to get past me.  Sometimes i have to move my bag or get into another persons personal space just so that one other guy can get ahead.  If you are wanting to walk the escalator like its stairs, then use the stairs.  Thats what they are there for.

This of course doesnt apply if they dont have stairs, and obviously the standard rule of stay to the left while riding so others can pass is still a recognized rule.  But if you have the desire to walk, and a flight of stairs is provided next to the escalator, then use the damn stairs!

It can be fun to block someone in though that is trying to speed his way up the escalator ranks.  Its kind of like driving, when someone tries to pass and you block them.  Some might think that rude, but i prefer to look at it as my way of preventing people driving at unsafe speeds.  That, and sometimes im rude.

I have to disagree with this entire rant. I’m sorry, but the escalator is there to make life easier, but it’s also to make life faster. People don’t walk up the escalator because the like to walk, they do it because it’s quick. Walking on the stairs puts you at pretty much the same pace as those standing on the escalator. Also, it’s policy to stand at the right, not the left to allow people to

Pass. There are even signs specifying this in many malls and subways around town. I’m not obnoxious enough to push past them or even ask them to move, but I will stand as close as possible to them even on an empty escalator, and make them uncomfortable. As for roads, unlike USA, where there’s a fast and slow lane, in Canada it’s a driving and passing lane. If you are not passing, stat in the

Driving lane. Simple. And solutions like this alleviate traffic and congestion significantly.point being, If you feel you need to relax, driving or riding escalators, stay to the right, and don’t get your hackles up when people who know the rules push you back where you belong. (I’m using the collective You, not the singular) thank you.

I also have something to say on this. Escalators are awesome. Bastards are Bastards. Thank you.

My apologies, i did mean stay to the right, not left. Otherwise, that would explain why people are always trying to get past.
