Moving on! (Photo heavy)
So I figured the best medicine for missing all my boys was to dive right back into theatre and costuming again. I walked into the school for the first time since before the Christmas break and got hugshugshugshugs and many offers of Ill be your daughter! Ill be your son!
Sweethearts.
Here are some LONG over-due photos from our FALL production (sheesh!) Oklahoma!
.
“…Chicks and ducks and geese better scurry, when I take you out in the surry with the fringe on top…”–Laurey, Aunt Eller and Curly
….
“Cain’t you feel my heart palpitatin’ an’ a-bumpin’?” Will and Ado Annie
“…I’m talkin’ to a certain farmer’s daughter–then I’m lookin’ down the barrel of a gun!” Ali Hakim
“Everything’s up to date in Kansas City…they’ve gone about as fer as they can go…”
“Many a new face will please my eye, many a new love will find me…”
“Oh the farmer and the cowman should be friends..one man like to push a plow, the other likes to chase a cow…”
“Poor Judd is dead…a candle lights his head. He’s lookin’ oh so purty and so nice. He looks like he’s asleep, it’s a shame that he won’t keep, but it’s summer and we’re running out of ice….”
“Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day. I’ve got a beautiful feeling everything’s goin’ my way..”

I am mentoring this student–as she wants to go into costume design in college. She took over designing all the costumes for the ballet piece in “Oklahoma!”–and did an extraordinary job! (In December when we took 30 kids to the State Thespian Conference in Denver, I talked A. into entering the costume design competition with this project. Not only did she win FIRST place in State, she won a $1,000 Critics Choice scholarship! Another student of ours won first place in the monologue competition–out of 3,000 kids! Now we are qualified to go with these two girls to the International conference this summer!)
….
We are heading into two spring productions (“Caucasian Chalk Circle” by Berthold Brecht and “Shakespeare Abridged”) On top of that, I was honored to be asked to co-costume “Enchanted April” by the costume designer of a local theatre company. All of these productions are in February, March and April.
Here I go again! 12 hour days (two productions within the next six weeks) is a great way to keep me occupied. Helps to keep my mind off my flown birds….
Ian and Trevor are totally thrilled to be in DC, by the way. They call a lot and sound great. (I will be a little more comforted when Ian finds a JOB!)
So my dears and dahlinks…I can’t say I will be back soon, but I will wander in when I can!

Oklahoma, OK! *Shout!!* Love that musical! I’m just moseyin’ round, back here, going through what I’ve missed, since being so buried under my work, commute, etc. All I can say, beyond echoing what everyone else has said, is that the young costume designer was VERY lucky to be your protegé! You TRULY are making a difference to these students, Adagio… and I can’t think of any better way to work through the empty nest blues than that! 🙂
