Pumping
I guess I always knew I’d been good a making milk, just because I started leaking like crazy when I was only like 25 weeks pregnant. I figured breastfeeding would be a breeze.. didn’t really think the latch wouldn’t be and that it could be the most painful thing I’d ever tried. But at least I got the milk-making down. Thanks for all your notes. I’m gald I make what I do because he really does go through it fast!
All you that commented though, saying you could only pump like 2-3 ounces…. were probably also nursing though, right? I’m not, just pumping & bottle feeding so it doesn’t seem excessive to me to pump 4-5ounces per breast each time. I wish at times I could cut out the middle man {pumping}. There was a time yesterday while I was pumping that Cannon got hungry so I was simultaneously pumping while feeding him a bottle – it was a ridiculous sight. Like really it would just be so easy if he could just get it from the boob!
Then other times, I’m grateful, like when I’m out in public.. or busy & Jason can feed him when I love that he takes a bottle.
I know I could of tried harder to get him to latch & do both eventually — but with my nearest lactation help 30 minutes away, in the winter — I kinda decided early on that I’d have to be ok with just pumping because I knew it was likely he wouldn’t want to nurse after taking the bottle with such ease. I’m ok with it, just there are times when it’s a lot of work, especially being busy running all over with the older kids.
But it is what it is & my little monkey is happy & things are working out for now.
You know, I like to think that I’m a thoughtful considerate guy, that does not make inappropriate comments or jokes, but I couldn’t help but giggle a little from the first paragraph. I’m such a guy :). Glad your baby is doing well and happy! 🙂

In the end, it all comes down to doing what you need to do int he way you need to do it that makes you feel the most comfortable. Just my opinion on the matter! 🙂 I still think you are a pumping machine. For Callum, while he was in the hospital, it was hard to pump enough for him after a while. But I tried. I don’t think the super long car rides back & forth to the hospital helped too much either.

Wow, my son is three months old now and I still only usually pump between 4-6 ounces from both breasts combined, and this is when I’m pumping only, not nursing him and then pumping. The other day I got 5 ounces out of one breast when it was completely engorged and I was amazed to get so much from one. You are indeed a champion milk maker!
