Ultrasound and some pictures
We went in for the “20 week” ultrasound yesterday. My midwife thought it was funny that I wanted to get an ultrasound but I refused all other testing for anything while I’m pregnant. I just feel like the technology is there and my husband really especially really likes seeing the baby. Of course he can feel the baby from the outside but he’ll never be as connected as me. We wanted to find out gender but unfortunately baby’s butt was hidden by the placenta and had closed legs. The ultrasound tech guessed girl and then said she had no idea because the way baby was positioned it would look like a girl even if it was a a boy. Husband was very disappointed in not finding out and I wasn’t really concerned at all. I have absolutely not attachment to it being either a boy or a girl so maybe the surprise will be fun this time. My daughter totally didn’t understand the ultrasound which is to be expected for a 2 year old. She was supposed to go with us but he grandma went on vacation and we had no one else to watch her. She kept asking why I had stuff on my belly and said she could see her favorite cartoon on the screen with the baby. haha. I think she’ll be a little shocked when there’s actually a baby at home this spring.
We also just got back home from a week trip to visit my parents. Just me and my daughter went and I think I just caught up on sleep. I don’t mind flying with her by myself but our flight was delayed almost 4 hours on the way home and her belly was bugging her so she wanted to go potty 8 thousand times. We ended up having to stay in a hotel because the airport is 3 1/2 hours from home and there was a mega blizzard and we didn’t want to drive in the dark. So there went $120 unexpected dollars to stay overnight. Holy crap hotels are expensive last minute even though I got a deal online.
We have a midwife appointment tomorrow so we’ll be taking another 6 hour round trip car ride tomorrow. I find it funny to be at 22 weeks and this will only be my second appointment. It’s a totally normal pregnancy so I don’t see the point in going to a ton of appointments. Plus I don’t have any health issues at any time normally or with either pregnancy. We still dont have the logistics figured out for the birth but I’m sure I’ll get the sorted once I get into insane nesting mode around 30 weeks.
I have a whole timeline of photos of my belly with my daughter hanging up in her room so I have been comparing to see what it looks like this time. I’m pretty much the same size as last time but my belly is lower and a little more round, plus my belly button popped out last week which is WEEKS before it happened the first time. My breasts are much larger and more tender this time which I assume is because I only stopped breastfeeding about 8 months ago. I’m also a lot larger in my lower half, my thighs and my butt. I completely lost my butt when I was pregnant last time so I’m glad to have it back plus more. The only downside being i keep outgrowing my underwear, even the underwear I bought at my biggest last time I was pregnant. Underwear is expensive so I’m trying to wait it out until I absolutely need more. I bought some bigger pairs a couple weeks ago and almost outgrew them already. My friend who is 7 weeks ahead of me said she gave up wearing underwear at home and it just wearing pjs. Sounds like a plan maybe!
Sorry for too much information here but sex is awkward this time around. I wanted sex constantly the last time I was pregnant in the second trimester. This time I do (not the the same extent though) but it is so uncomfortable this time. My cervix is so much lower and pushed to the front and feels very similar the the last weeks of pregnancy last time. So if you’ve never experienced that, it is not a pleasant feeling to have sex with the cervix in the way and getting hot from every position. Oh well, it basically just doesn’t last very long. Stupid cervix, what a jerk.
Ok, breakfast time!

ah, baby is being shy. since I havent been pregnant for long enough, I have no idea what is normal in the appointments, how often they are etc. but I’ve heard there’s a ton. I’m glad everything is going smoothly for you. 🙂

what other testing did they want you to do? I mean other than genetic testing which not everyone gets, what else would you get?

RYC: I know a few people who decline all that. They have to sign something here that if their baby dies or has any issues due to the lack of testing the doctor is not responsible. I think if someone feels ok about it, i dont see why people even make comments about it, imo the nurse shouldnt have said anything.

Aww congrats…Will you do another u/s later to try and determine sex, or just be surprised? I started wearing “granny panties” around 30 weeks because my sexy thongs were no longer sexy nor comfortable lol.
