Australia! Where do I sign up?

I’ve always said before I exit this world that I will travel to Australia..even if I’m eighty years old and my boobs are sagging to the ground.  It’s such a beautiful country with so much culture to absorb.  Well my thirteen year old sister may have a chance to travel to Australia through the People to People Student Ambassador program.

I went yesterday with my mother and sister to this meeting to hear all the information about this program.  Apparently there are only three ways for a child to be invited to this type of function: 1. Teacher Recommendation 2. Other school organizations and 3. Former Student Ulumni that had been through the program  From what we found out, I instantly became so excited for my sister.  This program is only taking 20 students from our area…so it’s almost kinda like the old saying "First come first serve" basis.  Needless to say after the meeting was over, my mother and I immediately filled out my sister’s application on line.  I would think my mother should hear something this week from the People to People program.  They will be starting up the interview process rather soon.

I just wish I could go.    Oh well though..I just hope that my sister is able to go and be a part of a wonderful experience.  If she does go, it will be this summer and she would spend nineteen days there travel all over Australia.  She’ll see the Opera House in Sydney, the Parliament in Canaberra [their capital], visit the country in Queensland, snorkle the Great Barrier Reef, and meet the Aborigonies.  From what they explained she will be seeing and learning a lot.  She will even receive high school credit for going on the voyage.

However; though, my sister will have to do some fund raising if she really wants to go.  The whole trip going to and back will cost roughly $6,000.  It sounds costly, but it will be worth every penny.  So for now I will keep my fingers crossed for my sister and hope that she gets accepted to go.
