I appreciate that there’s a lot to do and I’m sure you’re very busy. As a paying Lifetime member, I’m fully prepared to accept scheduled downtime and even the occasional unexpected downtime. What I’m less prepared to accept is the lack of communication we’ve had from you (and other admins, via facebook etc) in general in the last several months. I’m not sure if it’s my imagination (it could well be!), but I can’t help feeling like there’s something more going on that we’re not being told. I’m half expecting the site to just disappear one day without a word because there’s a distinct silence from this corner of OD. I know you know how important this place is to so many people, and we’re forever grateful for this space that you’ve provided for us. All I want is for us to be kept in the loop.

Thanks for this update so that we aren’t left completely in the dark. I thought you were going to start e-mailing members with e-mail addresses on file to let them know what was going on, though?

…it would be very helpful if…when these things do happen…and they do…update on Facebook and give us somewhere to get info. I must have checked FB 20 times yesterday and nothing. It’s very frustrating and would take less than a minute of your time.

This is nice to know but I have to say I agree with Lady of Many Talents. It would be nice to know a bit more, I know you’re very busy but it would be good to be kept in the loop. I’m worried I might not be able to login in one day! xxx

REDUCING CUSTOMER ANXIETY – That seems to be the ONLY thing we, your customers, paid and unpaid, are truly concerned about. Everyone understands the uncertainties of running a website (and the work too.) I just figured you were having trouble and were working on it. I decided to wait a few days before worrying about it. I’d rather you kept working on the problem than waste time sending me messages that something is wrong/you don’t know what /but you’re working on it. JMO

I also agree with Lady of Many Talents please more of a heads up would be appreciated in the future. I also am a Lifetime member who wants to be kept in the loop of things in a timely manner.

Thank you for the update, albeit a day late; because I went to the OD site on Facebook yesterday, when OD was down, and NO update, or anything. I don’t mean this in a rude way, as when writing one can’t distinguish the “tone” of the sentences. But, rather *politely* may I please ask, that you remember in the future, if there is an/or are outage/outages, downtime, etc: For you to PLEASE communicatethis on the OD Site on Facebook? Thank you. You always credit us Plus and the lifer’s too, so this is good. I hope things are resolved soon, and without much difficulty. I again, am downloading my OD & burning another disc, LOL. I get “noided” out that it will go bye-bye, and no return, because I love it so much, and everytime I love something so much, well, you get the idea, loL!! BigHugz and hopes for a better day for you and your staff!!!!!!

I agree with Mama Blue….people make it sound like there is a conspiracy going on or something. =o/ I just figured we’d know, when we know. It’s not like we as the OD community can DO anything anyway.

I agree with mamablue. Don’t worry about notifying us. We all know that if its down it will eventually be resolved because you are working on it. I can’t believe how many people fail to realize how hard it is to maintain a smaller site like this one. Its not like you have 100 people or more working for you like the larger sites do.

I’m sure it’s hard to run a site like this, and there’s bound to be errors. Some of us have been here since the hacker attack stole months worth of entries, so yeah, we wonder. No conspiracies, just a bunch of people who want to know what’s going on. Easiest way to alleviate a bunch of angry/curious/nervous bloggers is a heads up. Not necessary by any means, but we’d sure appreciate it! 🙂

A lot of these errors do not appear at random times. Often they have been happening between 1:00, and 3:00AM EST. Thanks for an explanation, but it’s a little late.

I agree with those that would like an update in a TIMELY manner. Never isn’t a timely manner. Things have gone wrong a number of times this week and after 2 days you are just now deciding to update. That’s not really good customer service now is it?

Oh nooo now the people who have nothing better to do with their time then troll an online diary site won’t have anything to whine about! Oh poop. Investing allll that money in lifetime subscriptions to a site that is known to crap out randomly was a GREAT IDEA, HUH? Glad I only do piddly month subscriptions…because, you know, this site kind of sucks sometimes. Thanks for the update, Mr.DM.

Been wondering what’s going on… was disappointed not to see anything posted on FB about it. Who keeps up with that page?

How do I download my diary to my desktop so when this happens again I can upload it later? Ps Thanks for at least looking into it. People want things when they want them expect them to happen then and there. I’ve been back and forth with this website and loved it just the same every time. It feels like home to me and I always need a good place to vent.

Thank you for letting us know that you are aware of the problems and are working to solve them. I agree with those who have requested to be updated on FB, during future outages. That would quell so many fears. In my opinion, this is the greatest blog/journal site out there. I want to have confidence that it will continue being here for me. Thanks again.

I’ve come to take these issues, so few and far-between, in stride, knowing that you’re fixing it and it will come back. Whether you announce it or not, I always know it will come back. Thanks!

Okay Bruce, I can understand that occasionally there will be problems. I totally get that but your last update be on October 17 and then not another word for the 4 days? I find that inexcusable. I love this site and would be devastated to lose the privledge of coming here. To have to worry for days about whether or not OD was even coming back, not to mention the loss of our diaries, is not fairto any of us. I appreciate the job you and your staff do but I think you really did a disservice this time by not communicating. 2 or 3 lines on Facebook and on here would have relieved a lot of people’s minds. That being said, thank you for getting the site back up and running.

I’m just glad OD is back online. Each time I tried to login, I saw the message saying it was a database problem, and that was all I needed to know. Thanks for your hard word in getting the site up again.

Welcome Back. I myself would like to see some method of updates being posted as to the nature of the problem.

Oh and just as an added after note after reading one of the notes. I don’t think the site will ever completely go down and not come back! I think myself and I also tell other people that Bruce is not that bad! If it’s a serious problem then he would fully inform us! I don’t remember a time when he hasn’t done that for as long as I’ve been here!

Man I just keep noticing things to write about! This is not people just trolling an online diary site! This is a home to many people and their diaries! They’ve made friends here! IT. MEANS. SOMETHING. TO. THEM! I don’t think you have the full right mentality for it!
