Reader’s Choice Duplicates

Happy Sunday evening everybody,

(Unless it’s not evening or Sunday where you are).

It seems that it was possible in some cases to nominate the same person more than once to Reader’s Choice, I come to find out. Although this was blocked with regular users, the block for Plus users was not functioning correctly (not saying anything about how Plus users should know better…).

Anyways, the way the RC list is supposed to work is that only one entry per author can appear on the list at a time. This is done to ensure that the list is not filled with entries from the same diarists over and over. The software will now ensure that if an entry is on the list from one author (Plus or otherwise), it won’t allow another entry from that same author.

While we’re at it, I think it’s in somewhat bad taste to write something and insert “please nominate this to RC” into it – the RC list was created so that when a reader finds something they think should be seen by other people, they could bring it a little attention. Not so you could nominate your friend’s diary entries just for the sake of getting your friend on the RC list.

A little discretion would be appreciated.

After how many years you’re asking for discretion? That’s funny.

I’ve had two people now tell me that they’ve left me notes only to come back a few days later and find them gone. I didn’t delete them as I never even saw them so I was just wondering whether there may have been a glitch or something that prevented them from saving? Cheers.

thanks for taking a stand for diary integrity. readers choice is the most abused diary feature, and it’s laudable that you do try implementing so many safeguards to prevent RC Abuse. hopefully you can cure RCA within our lifetimes.

Just flipping through your updates, and thought I understood, then got confused later. So if I nominate a person for one entry, and say, I think in a month’s time something else is worth being in RC by the same person, it won’t put it up? Or does it replace the older nomination with the newest one?
