Automatic Logins

Okay, this is something I didn’t originally think we were going to be able to do, but we surprised ourselves today.

The problem of having to login again when you go over to Free OD, or for your friends to have to login again when they come here should be a thing of the past. We’ve written a piece of code that will automatically transfer your login information over to Free OD when you go there, and vice versa. With this, once you login to your diary here, you will not have to login again over at Free OD.

However, (and this is important) this piece of code only works if you are going to Free OD through your FOD favorites list, or if you click the “Free Open Diary” link on the left side of the front page. However (again), once you have done that once, you will stay logged in over there until you logout or close your browser.

I’ve also made it so that Free OD users enjoy the same advantage when coming here through their OD favorites list, or by clicking the “Open Diary” link on the left side of the Free OD front page.

I’ve been more and more concerned these last few weeks about the fractured feelings between our two communities. I want all of our diarists, from OD and FOD, to feel that they have a diary home that they like here – whether they are on the subscription site or the free site. This bit of work should help us to be able to stay closer to our FOD friends (and vice versa) without as much hassle.
