Life and the meaning of such.

"What is the meaning of life?" This is a question I have been asked more times than I care to recount. When I am speaking with someone on the subject of life I can only give this advice.

What you make of it is all you can call your own.

I am referring not only to material possesions, but also spiritual.

1.) The loyalty you earn among your friends is cherishable unless it is purchased. I have many people that surround me for status. These barnacles leech on to me just to say they are in my circle. This means nothing. They would do whatever I ask of them but they would do it for the wrong reasons. On the other hand I have a friend who would do anything for me because he is truly my friend. There is a quote from one of my favorite movies ‘Good Will Hunting’ where Sean says in regards to a satement from his friend about loyalty: "Any one of those retarded gorillas would take a bat to your fuckin’ head if he asked em’ to." That’s a friend. That is one of the meanings of life. To touch a life so deeply that you become more important in their eyes than they themselves do. Parents know this feeling well.

2.) You don’t own anything you are not afraid to lose. It goes along with the saying ‘Nothing earned is nothing gained.’ Say you are given a twenty dollar bill by a man on the street. As you walk home that evening it falls from your pocket. When you check and it is gone, how do you feel? You may be upset about losing your newly aquired good fortune, but nothing is really lost. You did not lose time or effort. Now put yourself in the shoes of a young single mother. She is working a twelve hour shift just to feed her young son. She has lost twelve hours of time with the person she loves the most. She has stood on her feet for twelve hours dealing with people that would just as soon spit on her as listen to her problems. She walks home after her arduous day and that same twenty dollar bill slips from her pocket. How do you think she feels? Another meaning to life. To earn and feel rewarded. When that mother does get home she sees the loving smile on her son’s face. She sees the things she has provided him with. She sees the life she is building on her back alone. That reward is a great one.

3.) This is the greatest meaning of all. This is the one that drives us whether we know it or not. Hope. We get up in the morning and pull on our boots in hopes that we will make the bills. Or we buy tickets to the lotto in hopes that we strike it rich. We walk the same path to class even though it is out of our way in hopes that the girl at the end will notice us while she stops at her locker. We pray to a God we can’t see in hopes that when this life is over we will see him. Without it we are nothing. We have no purpose. I challenge you to think of one thing you do in your life that does not derive from hope.

These are just a few of the reasons I believe we are here. Words like passion, hope, love, and faith.

It gets deeper, but who has the time?

very poignant and wonderfully encapsulates the basis of life (besides the obvious food, water, air). I would have to agree on all points… and so eloquently put… impressive.

Hope is the basis of EVERYTHING, I cannot agree with you more. The only thing that can result from a complete loss of hope is suicide. ::shudders:: But hope is so strong it is few who can resist it. Ryn: I was glad to see a note from you (THANKS!! ::hugs:: I didn’t know Oprah said that… amazing!) and then an entry as well! : ) Peace and health.

How about artificial intelligence? And its progressions, how it is now beginning to be integrated through society? How far it will proceed? Should there be limits? Etc. Just an idea. : ) Peace.
