Another Sleepless Night

Dear Diary,

I haven’t slept well the past two nights. Actually, I did sleep pretty good in that comfy recliner…until I woke up to go to bed. Both nights I end up “going to bed” after midnight and can’t get back to sleep. I’m not one to toss and turn so up I get to watch terrible TV until 2 or so in the morning . One morning I woke up in the recliner with the TV still going. This morning found me back in bed but not so rested.

Spent this morning in good conversation with Tim who came by to go over the plans for the remodel. I can’t believe that we may actually be at the point where we will do this. Of course, we haven’t seen the final work up and don’t have Tim’s bid on the job. That’s coming next Monday or Tuesday. It just has to be in our price range…if not, I will be sooooo disappointed. Hubby was okay with the fact that I met with Tim without him. I explained it was only for clarification purposes on some of the details of what’s going out and what’s coming in. Tim would be ready to start by the 26th of this month if we approve the plans.  I asked him how he would proceed and what did I need to put away.  Basically, everything should be packed up.  OMG!  But I can do it (the packing) if I know for sure that we are going to actually do the remodel.  The afternoon was spent going through the drawers of the built-in bookcase (it’s going out) and sorting through years of pictures. Must do something with them – a major future project for sure.

This evening was spent at choir practice at church. A new year and “new” old music to work on. Our budget was cut this year and we really can’t complain. There’s so much in storage and it makes sense to recycle. I started organizing the music several months ago – cleaning out the shelves and the binders, grouping and bundling  the songs,  alphabetizing and stacking the music and even writing the titles down to input in the computer. There’s still much to do. I stopped when I realized there was a file cabinet full of music and just didn’t have time to tackle it. After practice, Tom (the director) wanted to go out to eat and we invited Tim (the builder) to join us. We went to our favorite place and they were thrilled to see us – especially Tom who hasn’t been there in months due to his illnesses.  Since he is feeling and doing so much better, it was a real treat to go out. The Manhatten was so smooth; the meal was simply delicious; the company was comfortably entertaining and I was one happy lady. On the way home I was so ready for bed. No recliner tonight. No TV. Lights were out at 10:45 and asleep within minutes.

Holy cow! What’s going on? My mind registered the noise as a siren and as I jumped out of bed I realized the room was lit by the flashing lights of a patrol car. The pounding in my ears was the racing of my heart. Hubby even bounded out of bed. We both went to the windows – only to find the patrol car behind another vehicle almost in our driveway.  We live at the end of a cul-de-sac and all the commotion was literally at my front door. I think the clock registered 2:12 although I’m not certain. I was trying to focus on slowing down my heart rate as I watched the officer from my bedroom window. It finally registered with me that there wasn’t anyone in the front car. I couldn’t hear the conversations but the next hour saw no less than 5 other patrol cars come to the scene, several officers checking one home and around 2 others.  They even walked our drive to the back alley. As the officers came and went I found myself wide awake in the front room. Around 3:30 a truck pulls up, a lady gets out and with the officer checks the trunk of the car. A little while later, she gets in and everyone drives away.

My take is that the car was stolen. The person doing the stealing probably bailed out when he/she realized he/she turned onto a cul-de-sac and made off on foot. The owner was called to come get her car.

And here I am….

….another sleepless night.

Have you tried reading a book when you wake in the night? It often works for me as my eyes tire.

I hate it when I can’t sleep. I usually read until I fall back asleep.

That would have scared the crap out of me. I probably would have been up the rest of the night. I just hope they got the guy that stole it. What a night for you!
